I have the same issue. I have a 2021 Chevy Traverse for work that also has CarPlay and I never have any issue with static in that. I use the regular Apple cable, so it’s not a cable issue. My guess is it is the media center where the phone connects, or it is something with Uconnect. I haven’t taken it to the dealer because I know they will say they could not verify and it will be a waste of time. It is very frustrating because I only listen to music through Apple Music.
I feel you ,I had the issue happen as i was taking it in to service it and once i stopped in and 3 advisors gathered around the cabin to listen (they already were told about it)..it stopped!
cant replicate= cant do shit.
I sometimes feel it starts when i go on a rough road patch and from then on its random for it to stop or if i switch between AMFM and turn on and off the whole thing....
even though i dont have the Jeep, knowing what caused it will bring me closure!

Ok so here’s an update, I don’t think its the Jeep and here’s why:
1. Started to notice it in my 2020 Ford I drive 20 hrs per week in, not as bad but there. Apple cables, different cables, different usb inputs all there just like the Jeep. Only common link is my iPhone at this point.
2. drove Jeep 4 hours up north with occasional skipping, apple iOS update over the weekend and NO skipping on the 4 hour ride home.
will continue to try this all out but that’s where I’m at…

This is interesting..... you know why? We have had our Honda pilot since 2020 and it has never done anything like that.UNTIL now...random static, very noticeable when i lightly apply the brakes, it pops, static thru speakers, and i can replicate it when it "Starts happening"..other times it is good. on my 21 4runner, not a single issue. All this while using my iphone, but i had upgraded from the 11 to the 12 pro max. happened on my Jeep with both phones but now on the honda only on the 12 max pro....

This is really really weird.

It is weird, I drive my 2020 Ford For work for the last year and a half about 40k miles per year, it just started doing this last week for the first time. I blame Apple… at least for now 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️

I had with all three, A, C and the A in the armrest console. All of them had this issue but it seems not all Jeeps have it, and evidence is slowly pointing to Apple as a culprit rather than the Jeep. Something to do with some software running in the background like maps or a certain process.it really drove me insane and i could not pinpoint it.

Yeah all 3 ports. Cable grade or phone version don’t seem to matter. Still happening in my new Jeep after newest iOS. Happens in my 20 Ford also now so it’s not solely uConnect, has to be a CarPlay issue.

FYI…thought I would give an update. My radio was a 7.0 Uconnect and I was having the static issue. I tried all different cables and nothing worked. 2 weeks ago I upgraded to a new 8.4 Uconnect radio, purchased from Nismopar.com. Since installing the 8.4, I have had ZERO issues with any static. My conclusion is the 7.0 radio was the issue. I don’t know if all of you experiencing this have the 7.0 or 8.4, but I thought I would share my experience.

I have the same problem with my 21 Cherokee. The music from my phone sounds absolutely awful on USB 1 (by the gear shift). Thought it was a Jeep thing and I’d have to get used to it. On a whim today I plugged the same phone and cord into USB 2 and it sounds BEAUTIFUL. Even has more bass than the USB 1 and perfectly clear. Hoping the dealership will cover this as it’s annoying to have a cord from the center console (USB2) to my phone (mounted on dash). I only have 3400 miles on it. Literally brand new.

Hi Alien Ant Farm,

We’re sorry to hear about this. We certainly understand how frustrating this may be. Please feel free to let us know if you decide to address this with your dealer and we will gladly assist you during that process.

I’m glad I found this thread, as I have been having this same issue with my 21 Wrangler JL since I bought it last July. There was a small part of me that thought it was because I changed out all the speakers and added amps and a PAC, but clearly now that is not the issue. I have noticed that this does not happen with Bluetooth, although the sound quality is awful compared to CarPlay via USB. It also does not happen with a flash drive with MP3s on it, or an old Sony Xperia phone that I have stored music on to use as well. Also, no problem with Sirius XM. I have an iPhone 13 Pro, and I’ve been using the OEM Apple cable. I believe I have tried different cables when this issue first arose, and I tried all the ports as well. I also tried using my old iPhone 7 Plus instead, but the issue still arose, with the exception of a road trip to Montana where the static was prevalent, then I switched to Sirius XM for about 30 minutes, then back to the 7 Plus, where I experienced no static for several hours. Very strange. Given that both iPhones were running the same iOS, it’s not that strange that the same problem occurred. I personally believe it’s an issue with Apple or iOS. If I had a friend with Android to test the Android Auto side and things and check for any static, that would be interesting to see the results. Maybe I can borrow my dads Pixel 2 to test this. I’ve spoken to the service manager at the dealership whom I have a good relationship with, he’s aware of this issue, and he said it’s all a matter of waiting on an update from UConnect. This was a few months ago… I’ve mostly learned to live with it, which is strange as an audiophile, but I really don’t think we or I should have to live with it. Perhaps I’ll try another cable. I just don’t get it.

So I just started noticing the cracking sound/cutting out in the audio a few weeks ago, and I got my 22 Wrangler JL in October. I have brand new aftermarket alpine speakers, amp, and sub, and I am now going to get the alpine restyle. Anyone know if the restyle has the same issue? I believe this is an all a Uconnect issue, and I hope the Alpine Restyle will fix this. I also tried to take it by my dealership, they said since the tech can’t replicate it, nothing is wrong with it. I even had a recording of the audio to show how the sound cuts out and has static. Anyways, I would appreciate some insight on the Alpine Restyle (the 9”) and if it has any similar issues.

I have a 2023 Jeep wrangler sport and this problem is also happening to my Jeep. Jeep is charging me a $180 diagnostic fee, I feel like they won’t have a solution for me, so I’m thinking of not bringing it in…

Contacted Jeep about this issue and they want me to bring the Jeep to the dealer for analysis. Before I do, I wanted to see if this was a common problem...

I have a new 2019 Rubicon with the Alpine upgraded audio package. UConnect has the most recent update as of this post. I get static when playing music from my iPhone via USB and the UConnect Media app. However, the same song when played via Bluetooth or Apple Car Play (Car Play is connected by the same USB port and cable) has no static - the static is specific to USB and the UConnect Media app. The static can not be eliminated by turning down the volume (turning down the volume just turns down the static), and the standard UConnect equalizer does not reduce or isolate the static. It seems to be coming from all speakers in the higher or mid-high sonic ranges.

Jeep is guessing a loose wire or connection. I'm guessing a driver issue in the UConnect software. Any ideas?
4 years later and this is still a problem. It’s happening to my 2023 wrangler :/
