Where at in Illinois? Looks like it ranges from 5°F near Carbondale to -25°F near Rockford right now. That's pretty cold, but it's been a lot worse.

It was 9°F at my house this morning. I was very impressed that there is no creaking or popping or moaning from the body of the Jeep or the interior trim. Can't say that for a lot of vehicles. Good job Jeep!

It is -23 with a -52 windchill by me. Jeep and RAM both started right up.

I didn't try to start anything else. I did, however, throw a boiling cup of water in the air to see if it really turns to steam.

About 30 minutes south of the city.

-50 ??? I wouldn't leave my house. :)

Got off work this morning, unfortunately had no choice. I'm a firefighter/paramedic and last night was brutal. Thankfully no fires though.

I did that last year and it worked! We threw it from three stories up and it froze before it hit the ground

-23 is fricking cold. Been there, done that (Grew up in Minnesota).

That said, wind chill doesn't make things any colder, it just cools them off faster. Your car doesn't know or care what the windchill number is.

EDIT: I have a friend who's a fire chief in Minnesota. I can't even imagine having to fight a fire in this weather! Here's hoping you don't have to!

This is nuts. I was grumbling to my wife this morning when I got up because it’s 42 in Houston and the bathroom tile is cold. This puts it into perspective.

Keep warm and stay safe guys!

I know, when I got home from work last night, the house was 67 degrees, I had to turn on the heat to take the chill out. :)

Was an even 0 degrees here in SW Ohio at 0600 this morning. I am assuming it started fine as I used my remote start. Was toasty upon entering and I was glad the seat and steering wheel was warm.

That sounds more fun than my test. It did work for the most part though.

A few memories from younger days...

Left Minnesota in a snow storm on our way south one February. LONG day of driving, stopped that night at some hotel. Woke up early and walked to the desk to check out. It was sleeting outside, a little ice here and there. People were going nuts. I'm not a morning person... so as I wandered up to the desk in my Minnesota sweatshirt I asked what the problem was. She looked up and said "Minnesota? Honey, you're in TEXAS now..."

Another day; -20F, sun was out, no wind. Temps that cold are neat if you're ready for them. Air is crystal clear, Jets overhead sound different, the snow crunches when you walk on it. And nothing in the car moves when you sit down in it, assuming the door handle doesn't break off in your hand when you try to use it...

But the one I found funniest in a demented sort of way... Minneapolis airport. Standing near the baggage claim and watching people who have obviously never seen cold weather walking towards the door in their light jackets and even occasionally shorts. The look on their faces when they race back inside... yep, that's what 20 below feels like. Kinda stings, doesn't it? ;-)
