One of the questions that came up early in the group was about stand-still charging. Can the Wrangler 4XE "self-charge" from the gas engine. The answer is yes but this method is neither environmentally friendly nor efficient. This will use gas without a lot of extra benefit. The battery retains about a 15% charge for driving even when the battery level indicator drops below 1%. You will still have all of the power for off-roading or just every day driving even when the battery indicator says you are below the 1% mark.

a 5w doesn't seem like much. but 8 hours in a parkin lot is a long time.
they aren't very big, so can be put in the back seat when not in use.

if you wanted to be fancy you could mount it or maybe a 10w behind the driver seat facing the side window, just park your jeep with the driver window facing south

That would be a much better approach.

I don't think a 12v solar charger will charge the 17Kw battery pack as it is of much higher voltage.

These would be good for the accessories battery on a non EV system...

Keep in mind that the 4xe battery pack is 400volts and 17kWh. it takes 12 + hours on 110v house current to recharge the battery, so any solar system would have to be capable of working in that range, a small hood mounted panel just wouldn't put out enough energy to feasibly charge an EV battery without taking days to do it... and, even if you do manage to get the battery to full some how remember that you've only got 20ish miles range with that.

You missed a digit. Level 1 charging is about 12 hours.

oh sorry, you're correct... I'm used to plugging in at level 2 chargers when I'm out because I can't charge at home (apartments suck)

That would stink for sure. That has to be a pain.
