Driving home from work yesterday all seemed fine until I pulled onto my street and gave it a little bit more throttle than normal. The garage was not even a tenth mile ahead and from that point on I had steam coming from the front of our 3.6 Rubicon.

I popped the hood and could see coolant on front of the passenger valve cover and over on the battery tray. This puzzled me for a few seconds as I was trying to see where it was coming from as it was still streaming down off the battery tray.

Shining my phone’s flashlight down in front of the engine where the aluminum lines turn down, I could barely make out a tiny stream shooting over to the battery tray. You might be able to make it out in the video screenshot I took.

So apparently it seems I have a pinhole leak that doesn’t seem to be from between the hose connection of the hose going over the hard line. It looks like the leak is coming from the side of the cut end of the hose. Hmm, that’s a new one for me. Seems there might be a hole inside going up into a rubber layer of the hose and coming out the cut end if it past the spring clamp.

Now I did have cam work done and maybe the movement accelerated a weak hose toward a failure. I’m not sure. Either way, I’m guessing this is today’s ā€œheater hose?ā€ I’m not sure what to call it. It’s the larger line that eventually goes down in front of the engine to where the connection is.

I’ve asked Benny here and waiting on word but I’m hoping you guys might have the nomenclature or even the part number.

Thanks.
