So I crawled under my JLU tonight and it looks like I have a leak. The bottom of the vehicle is dry but there's definitely some type of fluid that is on/has been on the driveshaft. It doesn't cover the whole thing but a good portion. It looks like the culprit is a tiny leak from the transmission up higher. also looks like there's a tiny transmission leak down lower however this is lateral to the driveshaft and most likely not the offending leak. neither one of these are major as there's never a drop on the garage floor but it's only 3 months old. anyone else have this? i'm guessing i need to go to the dealership. what kind of hassle can i expect if it needs some new gasket or transmission work? would this be covered under warrantee? there's no lights on the dash and everything works perfect. any thoughts? thanks!

What color is the liquid? Any smell? Or taste? Make sure it’s not just water.

I just had a leak coming down from above the transmission, except mine happened all at once. It turned out to be the heater core leaking coolant (it's at the dealership for another 8+ days for it right now, my jeep only has 1500 miles!) - a few other members here have had a problem as well described like yours. There was some bad batches of heater cores I guess. They'll fix this under warranty for sure, but it's a major work order that requires them to remove the dashboard.

If you put the heat on, do you ever smell a sweet smell?

i haven’t smelled or tasted the liquid. looks like a tan/yellow type color and i first thought it was transmission fluid because there was some up higher as well as near the transmission drain bolt. both spots look like where the trans might be attached to engine. i thought transmission fluid was more of a red color? there was a very small drip that i wiped up off a small silver tube above the drive shaft that was darker - more brownish that appears to have fallen from the leak above prior to most likely continuing down to the driveshaft. no sweet smell when the heater is on. any ideas are greatly appreciated!

I had a transmission heater leak. The dealer fixed it no problem.
the whole thing makes me nervous because it looks like it’s where the transmission attaches to engine (i’m not very bright regarding part names, lol). don’t want it to be some gasket where everything has to be ripped apart to get to it

You don't have to smell it or taste it, just rub some on your fingers. If it feels oily and doesn't dry then it's a lubricating fluid(trans, engine oil). If it's not and it dries then it's water.

Are you sure it isn't grease from your drive shaft? Is the joint or boot goes it will sling it all over the place.

Hi nositting,

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this concern with your Wrangler! If you move forward with addressing this with your dealer, we would be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf for an additional layer of assistance during that process. Our team is just a PM away.

can you add a picture on here of the point of rough leaking to help us here. i assume you have made an appointment for inspection already. there is so many could be's when its around that area due to the wind going through the bottom of the vehicle that can make it look like an area that it could be leaking and it is not. do you have a small mirror to help pin point the location?. i wouldn't stress a gasket at all if that was the case. that is the quickest and easiest fix you could have..

yep, will attempt to add a pic after work today.

as far as this being from CV boot - it really doesn't look like it. looks more like a very slow drip from above.

Just FYI the transmission fluid they use in these things has a greenish tinge.

Coolant is pink/purplish.

P.S. I was just joking about tasting it.
it's definitely more greenish than pink. I haven't made an appointment yet but will after work. will let you guys know what comes of it. I appreciate all of your good info - please keep it coming!
