I live in the northeast so we get pretty bad winters. I can't see myself using the soft top in the winter. I'm garage kept but I figured the soft top in winter would kinda suck.
A bit of perspective:
I drove my new YJ, with the factory soft top, off of the dealer's lot on a December winter's day in PA. The vehicle was a daily driver that was parked outside at work and at home.

In terms of visibility through the rear plastic window, the worst I recall experiencing was some fogging around the perimeter. Snow and ice wouldn't really accumulate (stick) due to the window's perfectly vertical surface; this served as a hedge for the absence of a defogger element and a windscreen wiper. I concede that the plastic, even when new and clean, wouldn't ever be as crystal clear as its glass equivalent.

As for interior warmth, on the coldest days I tended to run the heater fan on Medium, where a hardtop-equipped Wrangler might have only needed Low.

I hope this helps.

Ok cool to know. I think I’m going to end up still using the hard top this winter since I have it.
