Ordering a rubicon. No dual top available. aftermarket both tops run about 2500 right? So should I get the hardtop and pay extra 1500 so I get wiring/washer installed or get soft top save 1500 and get hardtop later. Don’t I save $1000 this way. Why are the tops the same price, ie hard and soft. Any advice appreciate.

Order with a hardtop or you will not get the wiring for the wiper/defrost. I remember from my time in "The County" that a rear wiper/defrost was required.

If you plan on having both tops order with the hardtop - factory installed wiring is good as dealership will charge lots to do it.
Brand new hardtop from the parts dept. are about $4500 vs. Brand new soft top is about $2800 (CDN$) so Mathematically it’s a no brainer.

I factory ordered mine with the premium soft top and later found the only 2 door hardtop that was for sale “second hand”, it was on a 3 week old Jeep. The wiring was about $400, I persuaded the dealership to install for free but otherwise it would have been about 2-3 hours of labor costs.

It can be done if you get lucky on finding someone selling a hardtop but just easier to order with the hardtop and see if someone is selling a soft top (or get aftermarket / order from parts dept.).

Order the hardtop. There are always soft tops for sale. For example, I have a 4 door soft top I need to sell. Still in the box!

Another vote for hardtop if you think you’ll ever want it. Much easier to add a soft top later than vice versa.

Depends on storage for hardtop an use plan. Daily driver agree with hdtp. 2nd/3rd car go and plans for topless, consider soft top.

2dr PST owner here. I’ve done 3 CT winters. No desire or need for a clunky hard top.

That said, I agree with the others... if you know you will get a hard top then order with it to get the wiring. If you aren’t sure you want/need it, I vote premium soft top.

It may be for the following reason:

A Wrangler's price includes a soft top. If you decide instead to get a hard top the price you pay is for the cost of the hard top minus the cost of the included soft top you "give back" to Stellantis to use in some other owner's build.

As a new Wrangler owner with a soft top I honestly thought if I wanted a hard top ever in the future that the defrost wiring comes with it, I guess that's not the case? Is that an expensive purchase to get the defrost stuff? Just out of curiosity.

Order the hardtop so you get higher springs, then sell it for $1500 and use the money to buy a myTop which is quieter and warmer than the hardtop. Plus it can do this with the push of a button
