I made the mistake of listening to a friend with the same type Jeep but a year older, a took it on the highway (with speeds in excess of what I should have been doing). I have done this at least 4 times but the last one ripped the soft top from all three cross bars! Wondering if anyone has repair suggestions, or do I need to replace? Also does Jeep (or other companies) make a cover that can prevent air from pushing into the folds when traveling. BTW back window was out and sides were still on so the soft top wasn’t all the way down. Thoughts?

If the fabric that separated from the cross bars is still intact, you might consider reattaching them to the bars with a well-rated fabric glue. Used properly, it provides excellent adhesion.

Failing that, and depending on the degree of damage, you might be in for the cost of a replacement top. Photos would provide necessary context here.

I'm trying to understand exactly how this happened. I drive at freeway speeds with my softop in various positions and haven't dealt with this. As mentioned above, pictures would help.

Is this the factory soft top you are referring to or did you replace that with an aftermarket frameless top? Factory soft tops don't simply come apart at highway speeds. There has to be more to this story.

That is what I was thinking. My softop is not mopar/BestTop and is made by Mastertop with no problems at high speed.

OP, don’t just dump your question here without answering the follow up questions. We want to know just what the hell happened to your soft top. Some pics of the carnage are also required.

I have an oem hard top for winter and a bespoke soft top for summer. I have do 85mph regularly on the highway with the soft top and have never had any issues. I have had the soft top for almost 4 years now. No tips or tears

Something isn't adding up here. If you were driving fast enough to rip the soft top on a Jeep, you probably should be in jail

I regularly hit 80 and the soft top of my JL doesn't make a sound and doesn't flap or wiggle at all, unless I'm next to a truck with the wind coming off it

to actually come off the supports either it was already damaged or you were going faster than a Wrangler ever has

I installed the Besttop Trektop Ultra, with slant back. 80+ mph on interstate, fully opened (mine doesn't lay down all the way because I have a 4" top extension on my Diabolical cargo) with windows out (only way it will fold all the way open) and no issues. I have thought it would catch too much wind but it doesn't seem to mind. Been driving that way for two years now as I am too lazy to remove and go back to hardtop each season. But I don't mind the noise or cold in the winter, with the heat on it's not that bad. Maybe you have a cheaper aftermarket on there?

Guessing it’s sailcloth and not twill? Buddy of mine had the same issue with his ‘19 Sport.
