Yes, very few buyers will be interested in a vehicle with a new engine in it.

I don't think most buyers would care if its a new engine installed properly. The vehicle will still be covered by the 60k powertrain warranty.

So if its sold anytime soon, the buyer is covered. And if he runs it for 52k miles until the warranty is done, then the motor has proven itself as properly installed.

My coworker had this happen, he used lemon law and got a new jeep. He ordered a 3.6L etorque instead

They will replace it with a new engine. It is warranty work.

Once a new engine is installed, the vehicle is good to go. I wouldn't worry about issues.

Odometer will not be reset, as it measures the mileage of the overall vehicle, not just the engine.

As long as they provide a comprable loaner for the time that you are out of your jeep, I think you should be happy. Sounds like the dealership is making it right.

So when a fuel injector stuck open on my father’s F-150 Ford replaced the head, piston and rod only, maybe because of the mileage but it was warranty work and did not get a new engine. When I had a transmission issue in a Honda they refused to replace the transmission and only replaced the throw out bearing and first gear when a manual transmission is cheap. So my guess is they do whatever is least costly.

It is pretty ridiculous that they are still having this same issue on every single 2.0L out there. The same freaking coolant leak blowing engines up left and right.

Just to ease your mind, I had a Mustang GT suffer a catastrophic coolant leak due to a defective IM at 35,800 miles.

They replaced the engine with a Ford "renewal". I was LIVID.

I was convinced there was NO WAY it would ever be the same.

She had 185,000 miles when I sold her with zero problems. So it can be done correctly.

Good luck and be sure to let us know what happened. Some of us 2.0T owners are on pins and needles over coolant issues with these engines.

Pretty much every dealer engine is a Reman, except when they are out of stock.

Driving to work yesterday and the engine overheat warning/alarm went off. I pulled over and noticed that coolant went EVERYWHERE in the engine bay. I had the jeep towed on a flatbed to the dealership. Today, I get the good news / bad news....

Good news: I'm 100% covered under warranty (2022 JLUR 2.0L is 8 months old with 8000 miles).

Bad news: They identified the problem was a bolt that wasn't tightened correctly at the factory. They fixed it installed coolant and the engine blew when they started it.

So now, I'm getting a loaner while I wait 40 days for a new engine and wondering a few things:

Do they typically give a "new" engine or a rebuild?

Do they reset milage with a new engine?

Should I expect more problems on the horizon after they install a new engine. My instinct says yes.

If so, Is it wort it to just order a new Jeep and trade in my current jeep once the new engine is installed. My dealer gave a great deal last time and I think he would treat me well on the trade in. However, I would still lose some $$$ but it would be worth it to avoid the headaches of future repairs (Kinda the main reason to buy new).

In fact it happened to me on my '21, right at the 8k miles mark. I'm convinced that thread should be a sticky and handed to you when take delivery...I was lucky, they said I didn't have long term engine damage so they didn't do a replacement. But if I knew about this I would've double checked myself before damage could happen.

Make sure you get Jeep Wave customer service to reimburse you for any incidentals also. In my case they were able to reimburse my hotel room and Ubers when I got stranded on a trip.

I think that is a bit of an extreme exaggeration. Happened to me and it didn't blow my engine. Several thousand miles post repair and I am good. I also know several other 2.0 owners all with many more miles than mine and only 1 other has had this coolant leak problem.

Is it an issue? Yup and they have said so but to say engines are blowing left an right is a gross exaggeration. Most of the blown engines are probably due to people continuing to drive on an overheating engine.

They will not reset your odometer. They will probably extend your warranty on this new engine. Good luck

If you’re worried about it, contact Jeep Cares and ask them to give you an extended warranty to give you peace of mind. I know they can do it.

If they do just make sure your gas cards are up to date! (9.8mpg avg since August 21 purchase) But the enjoyment makes it worth it! The local dealer has one at Only 109+K, after a $19,995 Market Adjustment they will be happy to sell you! That’s $32K more than mine (although not XR) just 14 months ago. $32K buys a lot of gas! ? Disclaimer— have ~$5K in gears and tires so make it $27K ?

Sorry for the headache and trouble are having due to this catastrophic engine failure.

40 days is about right. Mine took 44, and 25 of those days were due to waiting for the FCA/Stellantis Adjustor/Inspector to come look at my damaged engine and to approve a new one under my extended warranty. The dealership already had the engine there at their shop, so I didn't have to wait to have it ordered/shipped. It seems like your 40 days will include them potentially having to order a new block for you.

If the dealership is giving you a loaner for 40 days, they are AWESOME. You should continue to use them in the future, if you decide to keep your Jeep. Dealerships are not obligated to give you a loaner or provide you with a rental beyond 5 days (this is stated in my EW, but I believe it is the standard in factory warranties as well-check the language in your warranty).

- You will get a new engine, if you are covered under warranty. When mine destructed, my engine was replaced with a 2021-2022 brand new engine. My Jeep is a 2018. I specifically asked the Service Manager would my replacement engine be refurbished or new. She indicated it would be new and that they already had it at their location. When I received my receipt, I saw that the part # for the engine was a newer block. If in doubt, ask the Service Manager directly (in writing-email, text, etc) if you will be receiving a brand new replacement or a rebuilt block.

- I'm not sure if you should expect more problems with the new engine replacement. I think for you, they will likely make sure your Jeep is right as they don't want you back in there for the same issue. Many people on this forum have never experienced an engine issue. There have been others with engine failure, reporting on the forums for different reasons. We are still a minority though, compared to all of the other members on this forum. I'm not privy to any other nationwide/worldwide data that would indicate how many people have needed engine replacements under warranty. I think at this point, you will just have to go with your gut on whether or not to keep it? Weigh your pros and cons and see how you come out. Let your lifestyle and peace of mind guide your decision with this. ?
