Strange thing just happened. Went out to a smoke filled garage. Jeep was parked for about 30 minutes. Maybe was in passive regen or something? Can find anything melted or burned. I guess I’m parking outside for awhile. Let’s see how this plays out….. lol No the Jeep wasn’t running. Lights are on because I opened the door.

Regens only happen when it’s running. So, it’s possible you were in a regen when you pulled in.

How many miles on it? Did it smell like something burning/melting? Possible it was burning off the exhaust stickers. Mine did that. Smoldering stickers gave off a little smoke.

I’m over 3k miles. No plastic burning smell. I’m going with undercoating now that I think about it. Though even that is a bit strange as I did it over 500 miles ago. I would have thought it all burned off by now. I dunno, I suppose it will show itself if there is a real problem. Just smells hot right now, not noxious.

And yes of course you only regen while running. I was just wondering if that increased heat could have some carry over effect still smoking for a bit after shut down.

An active regen gets the DPF very hot. So you may have had your first active regen since doing the undercoating. That’s probably the cause, it’s finally hot enough to get the undercoating to melt.

I would certainly park it outside until the cause is identified and rectified. If there’s undercoat on the exhaust it will leave char marks surely. I would closely inspect the exhaust as a starting point.

Agree. I should have also said that. It’s likely the undercoating, but better to be safe than sorry.

Yep it will be in the driveway. Putting in some miles first. Really wish there was more indication of regen. I have only once received the “keep driving” message.

Mine was smoking and reeking of fumes in the cabin. Turned out the DEF injector/sensor was out and burning on the exhaust. Screwed it in and haven't had an issue since!
