Hello,
I have a 19 jlu with 83K miles, a 3.6 and auto. I was driving down the road at 63mph, about 1800 rpm's, when I felt a slight surge. It was almost like the brakes were very lightly being applied and then released.. It did this in both 7th or 8th gear and with the cruise on or off. I did not see the tach move at all and the motor did seem to rev up or down. This lasted about 3 miles and went away. Could not duplicate it again. This happened about 4 months ago but this time I was going around 70 mph. Same characteristics then it just went away and has not return until now. Any ideas?

It was definitely not the fan. My wife was in the passenger seat and she felt it too. She asked if I was doing something to cause it.

I could not hear anything, just felt it. We actually had the top down.

Mine does this too. I cannot feel it really, but I can hear it since going to a more free flowing exhaust. Its random and only noticed it when steady cruising in upper gears. Not sure what it is, and theres no check engine lights.

I cannot hear anything but I have a stock exhaust. I can definitely feel it though.

This happens very occasionally to me as well. One time I pulled over and immediately checked the oil level. It was a touch low- so I filled it back up. Problem went away for the rest of the immediate time I was driving. However, I had it happen on another occasion and did the same and the oil level was fine. It has only happened to me when It has also been very hot and the engine was up to operating temp and such. Maybe the heat has something to do with it?

I noticed it also happens for me in the same range- I believe 8th gear.

I had something similar once. 21 JLUR 3.6. It felt like the engine was sputtering or hesitating. It was very inconsistent when it happened but would only happen when cruising at 50 - 55mph.

Ended up being shitty gas from the Walmart gas station. Once I drove that gas out of the tank, there was zero issues after another tank of gas from not Walmart.

Not sure if this helps.

I had this at low speeds on my 2019 jlu like at carpark speeds. Pretty sure there was a tsb where they did a software update to fix surging (thats what the dealer did to mine). Otherwise it could just be a bad batch of fuel you got & will resolve with new fuel flush.

Happening to me too.
I’ve found if I switch to manual, go down to 7 then back up to 8 and back to automatic, it goes away.

Also, has happened twice and both times on a very hot day in 8th gear.

I think it’s the transmission and we should consider paining for a recall.
