I get the brushing part. I only use touchless washes when I go to them (usually in winter). But I'm skeptical of the 'harsh chemicals' concern. I've owned multiple vehicles with soft tops over the years and taken them through a car wash many times. I've never observed any issues with any of them. It's not the water part of the car wash that concerns me. It's the harsh chemicals and brushes beating on my soft top, and potentially damaging it. I would have the same reservations with the twill part of the sky one touch. If I did take it through a car wash it would be a touchless one
I would be less hesitant to take a hardtop though a tunnel wash but my preference is to hand wash my vehicles.
Moreover, both car washes and soft tops have been around for a long time. If there were any widespread reason to avoid mixing the two, I bet manufacturers would recommend avoiding them so that they, in turn, could avoid warranty claims.
I prefer to hand wash my cars too but it's mostly because I do a better job than an automatic wash, not because I think the auto wash is gonna damage my vehicle (again, assuming it's touchless).
