Hiker trailers quality is amazing. Specially for the price you pay. If you can get one from Colorado before they close their manufacturing facility I would. Indiana makes nice trailers too, but the colorado facility is pure craftsmanship.

When are they closing?

They wont share that information. Theyll remain as a costumer service and dealer facility but all trailers will be manufactured in the Indiana factory. When? Idk.

I see youre in long island so youd be ordering from Indiana anyway.

Fair enough lol. BTW what trailers are you looking at? Ive been eyeing Hiker Trailers for a while now
To say I’m looking at trailers wouldn’t be exactly true… it’s one of those some day maybe things. There’s a local outfit here in Fort Collins called Sparks Overland. They make one I like a lot… (don’t have model numbers or anything) it’s light (I’m really into saving weight where I can) and we’ll built. If I were to go that route some day I’d most likely give a local outfit first dibs. There are lots out there though, with many different plus’s/minus’s… it’ll be another deep dive down that rabbit hole if/when. But I’m inclined to support a local builder if I can.

These small trailers are pure comfort man. I use mine as a base camp. Take it close to the trails I wanna run and then hit the trail, then spend the night on a real mattress with heating and all the creature comforts. Cook a nice warm breakfast and hit the road. Itll take any fireroad or easy trail with ease. But the trails I hit with the Jeep I wouldnt wanna be towing anything lol.

So I got a middle offroad model and added a 2inch lift to it for better clearance and in case I wanna fit 33s in the future on it.

Which model is that? I'm years out on this purchase but it's always fun to window shop.

It is a mid-range 5x8 with a 2inch lift and articulating hitch (running ball hitch atm due to supply chain issues). I got mine all custom didnt go with their series models but optioned a la carte.

They make a mid range XL now which is the same as mine but comes with bigger tires from the factory.

This has been an entertaining read. I have a 2020 JLUR, 3.6, 8 speed auto, 37" Cooper STT Pro's on KMC beadlocks, steel bumpers and sliders and all my gear. I saw 7th gear a little and almost never saw 8th gear with the stock 4.10 gears. MPG was 15-ish on the road, 13's when wheeling in 4 hi, and less if 4 low was in effect. I was fine with that setup until we bought a Black Series Dominator camper. It was a complete dog towing that camper (it is heavy) so I wasted no time regearing to 5.13's. Absolutely no regrets on that decision, gained 1 MPG easy, 7th and 8th gear are in full effect too. Towing a heavy trailer is gonna suck regardless, but it handles the weight very well. If was was running a lighter tire wheel setup, then it would be even better. My wife's bone stock 2019 JLU Sahara with the same engine / trans, feels like a go-cart compared to mine.

For those who may be interested, here is a video of my JLUR running down the highway. I would have gone to 85, but the traffic was not cooperating. I have a 3.6L/ZF8/BFG K02s in 37x12.50x17/5.13 gears and here are the RPMs at various speeds:

At 65MPH in 8th, the RPMs are about 2200
At 70MPH in 8th, the RPMs are about 2350
At 75MPH in 8th, the RPMs are about 2500
At 79MPH in 8th, the RPMs are about 2600
At 75MPH in 7th, the RPMs are about 3100

I would not call these RPMs "too high" in the slightest...

Those numbers are way too high for me. I didn't change out my 3.73s for 35s.

The diesel likes to stay around 2,000 or less on the freeway. ?

I would expect a low speed-high torque engine like a diesel to max out at 2,500RPM and given the torque it develops to never need to be re-geared.

It is not "gutless" like the 3.6L...
At least it's not a 3.8...

But the 3.0 diesel was designed in Europe by VM motori so it's not a warmed over tractor motor. It pulls fine up to around 3,800 or so.
