I was told in another thread by some wise soul that the shocks are known to leak on jeeps. true or not I got one of them in the rear right. I think. jeep is new and my next oil change wont be for a few months but man has there ever been a lot of fluid coming out given the apparent size of the part. seems every second time i drive it and come back theres a stain on the concrete about the size of a donut under there. i hear no noises when i drive or hit bumps.

I have four questions:

1) is there any danger in waiting a few months until the oil change? will it stress other parts if its not working right for a while?

2) how much fluid is in there anyway? it doesnt have more pumped in from some other place right?

3) is there any chance its not a shock and something else? the puddle is immediately to the left of the right tire in the middle. no idea what color.

4) I forget the fourth question

Maybe I'm wrong (first time for everything), but that seems like an excessive amount of oil from a leaking shock. In my experience, they just weep a bit and you can see wet spots on the body of the shock, I've never had spots on the ground underneath.

Axle seal maybe?

I had two rear leaking shocks on our 2020 JLR within a few thousand miles. Jeep replaced them and they too were soon leaking. Not wanting to go through the wasted time dealing with Jeep again, I replaced them with better riding aftermarket shocks.
Well-built shocks do not leak.

I went to do just that and theres legit nothing there. so maybe its just water? not even a stain. ill take before and after pics next time it happens which is probably tomorrow
This may sound weird, but dip your finger into the puddle and smell it. Axle and gear oil have a distinct, very strong smell compared to motor oil. Tell us what you find with the “smell test.”

Should probably check your brake fluid reservoir level just to be safe. There are brake hoses, calipers and such back there that can leak due to damage or failure, although early failure would be rare. At some point, if brake fluid is leaking, you'll get a warning on the dash and the pedal may go soft.

A leaky shock is usually easy to spot because the shock itself will be coated in oil (and usually dirt stuck to it).

Take a pic with your smart phone (or do you not carry one, for fear of tracking?) ;)

hope this helps.

seriously though thanks for that advice. i keep the gauges on in the uconnect and nothing ever seems to go out of whack and the breaks dont squeak etc. once i see the leak again ill take pics since there seems to be no point now

If it's under the back right, and assuming you haven't deleted the muffler, are you sure it's not water condensation from the exhaust? Depending on where you are, this could be the right time of year to build that up pretty quick. How long is it idling there before you go and look?
