When looking to upgrade from my factory 285 70 17 wildpeak MT’s I wanted 35 11.5’s. There are not very many options in that size so, no surprise when I couldn’t find anything in stock. My All-American need for instant gratification took over resulting in a purchase of 5 Cooper STT pros in 315 70 17. At first I had some buyers remorse but, Several months later now and I am more than satisfied with my impulse purchase. The tires are speced at 34.56” and I have settled in at 28 psi cold which measures out to exactly 34”. I figure that 1/2” of clearance isn’t going make or break my experience.
I do off-road on a regular basis but, I don’t chase obstacles. I (we) love to explore you know just take random dirt roads to see where they go. If there is a boulder field between me and the other side I’m going for it. I have done many “hard” trails with no issue. I’m old enough to remember a conversation between my uncle and my dad way back in 1980. My pops had a brand new Chevy blazer and my uncle kept commenting on how huge the 32” tires were.
This is a long post for me and I hope you don’t feel your time was wasted on it. I guess my point is, sometimes we settle for what’s at hand and it’s perfect for what we need. I suppose the supply chain knew what I needed even if I didn’t.
