In my service manual this is all it has to say about select speed control.

This is new to me, I'm pretty sure I have it figured out and I have used it once. When in 4-low, shifting over to (M) then to - negative. I assume this is as low as it goes? What does M stand for and is it OK to lightly accelerate when using this feature?

Thank you.

M stands for manual. It “manually” shifts the auto transmission.

In select speed it is just the selector for the speed. In select speed + and - will change the speed on the display in something like .5 mph increments. Feet off the pedals and the Jeep will try to maintain that speed.

So when I'm in 4W - low - M then I select the speed control button and select/shift to (-) I can basically just let it do its thing to crawl over an obstacle very slow correct?

Yes. You choose the speed of the crawl in half mph increments.

Low and slow like good BBQ, just over obstacles instead.

And each time you tap + it will increase the speed by like 1/2 mph

OK now once I shift into the negative (-) that's it correct?

If I try to select/shift to negative again it doesn't lower the speed even more, does it? Just push into negative one time and if I want to go faster shift it to the positive + correct?

Once you pull the shifter left, it’s an up down momentary switch. Each tap - is down each tap + is up

I have a manual so I don't know every little nuance, but that's how every manumatic works. Up to go faster, down to go slower.
But like, you can't like go slower than the slowest. lol
If you're already at the slowest speed, which pushing negative would net you... You're not going to go slower.
Like you can't hit negative till you're going backwards or anything.

Yes, you can override what the select-speed system is doing whenever you want, if you tap the gas or brake it temporarily bypasses the automated speed control and only uses your pedal inputs. When you let off the pedals it will reactivate itself and resume the speed it is set to.

It functions almost exactly the same as highway cruise control, and many people informally refer to select-speed as "off-road cruise control". The only difference really is that it's designed for much lower speeds, has much finer speed control increments of fractions of a mph, is moved up or down using the shift lever instead of the steering wheel buttons, and if you use the brake pedal it only temporarily bypasses it instead of turning it completely off like it does on the highway. Other than that, the behavior is almost the same as highway cruise control.
