Hello all! Just traded in my 2019 Sahara 6MT for a factory ordered 2021 2-door Willys. Went with the 2.0t/8-speed which are fantastic, and also picked the Selec-trac transfer case to help keep the mud terrains grippy on wet/slushy roads.
Only about 650 miles on it, but noticed this right from the start something that doesn't feel normal.
- Shifting into 4-Hi Auto (either at a stop or while driving) is seamless
- Coming to a stop in 4-Hi Auto, say sitting at a light in gear with your foot on the brake, there is a vibration that can be felt in the pedals and steering wheel (can even feel in the seat)
- Letting off the brake and letting the Jeep roll forward stops the vibration
- Putting the Jeep in neutral or park gets rid of the vibration
- If you put the Jeep in park, kill the motor, foot off brake so it rolls/settles, then pull it out of 4-Hi Auto, it will roll/settle more like the T-case has load on it
I've tested the above in 4-Hi (so locked T-case) and it acts exactly the same. Obviously not driving locked in 4 on dry pavement except in a straight line for testing. There are no other vibrations, hesitations, or anything other than a noticeable impact on power when in 4wd. It's definitely slower which makes me wonder if the T-case is somehow binding and causing drag, but again everything else is smooth.
I've had lots of 4wd trucks (Nissan, Toyota, Ford) and AWD (torsen and haldex Audis, xDrive, etc.) and I've never had a transfer case/center diff feel like it's causing load when stopped under braking.
Wanted to check with other owners here before I make an appointment to get it checked out. Thanks!
