I'm really thinking that JL owners will like the design of our harness - with unparalleled circuit isolation (absolutely no chance of backfeeding, etc), and a solution that, by design, is 100% compatible with if not supportive of auxiliary braking devices! Sorry for the tease, but we are super-excited with this solution!!
The Brake Buddy Stealth supplemental braking system has a 4 wire flat connector to connect to the vehicle wiring harness. Will this be compatible?

That particular aux braking kit includes an all-in-one connector for the front of your Jeep and they have a flat-4 connector to connect to the "wiring kit". This Stealth Kit also includes an umbilical cord. (This is an impressive kit - and one of the most complete that I have seen!)

We will have two variations of our Kit:

Standard Kit - Includes all of the wiring, circuit isolation, fully sheathed harness, cast 6-pin round connector to mount at the front of the Jeep.

Deluxe Kit - Adds round 6-pin(Jeep side) to standard 7-pin (RV Side) umbilical cord and Fused (+) Charging wire from Jeep Battery to 6-pin Jeep-side connector (for Jeep battery charging while towing).

If you purchase the Brake Buddy Stealth system, you will need only our Standard Kit and you will discard our 6-pin (Jeep-side) connector. (Maybe we can consider omitting this but we are trying to avoid having several options. I will investigate.)

Finally, to your question: You can either add the opposite gender Flat-4 connector to the end of our sheathed cable or you can cut-off the Flat-4 connector from the Stealth kit and use heat-shrink butt connectors to connect the wires together. Your choice but the kits are 100% compatible.

CoolTech what is your ETA for the JLU harness and will it be close to the same price as the JK one. I bought the Roadmaster bulb set and was going to install it to prevent wiring into my JL harness but your solution seems better and I don’t have to drill my taillights.
Thanks for your interest. We hope to have limited quantities available by next week - and will post updates and ordering info to this thread.

To your point, however, Jeep sells a harness kit for the JL that largely accomplishes what you are looking for. It is part number: 68354156AA This harness plugs into a factory connector underneath the Jeep - approximately under the passenger rear tail light and has all of the wires you want (+ more). You would just need to add a flat-4 connector to it and you're done.
@CoolTech This part arrived today, but I am baffled. When I ordered there was no image to be found so this was really a BLIND purchase.

MOPAR Part #68354156AA I see one pigtail with the connector adapter at one end and the 7 pin round adapter at the other.

I don't see the connector underneath the passenger rear tail light as the one with the white tag isn't the same . I took off the cowling off and see one connector near the shock (a little dusty here)

I also took of the passenger side rear light and it's not readily apparent to me. Here is the MOPAR part and the connections

Any instructions? The ONE connector is what you see here, no "short jumper" to insert between the connection in the tail light.

Thanks.

Hi Ken,

This is a component of the optional 7-pin wiring harness install. The rectangular connection plugs into a connector that is tucked away within the bottom passenger-side rear quarter panel - just in front of and above the corner of the bumper.... and just aft and below the top shock mount. IF it is present, you should be able to feel it with your hand reaching up into this cavity. HOWEVER, it may be the case that only 7-pin optioned Jeeps will have the other side of this plug already there. (In fact, I think I saw a thread where another owner installed the 7-pin optional wiring and BOTH this harness and the one you plug this harness into were part of that kit..... which means it will not work for you.) Like you, I also ordered and received this wire BEFORE I received my Jeep as my local dealer assured me that this is what was needed for trailer lights. My plan was to cut-off the round connector (which is intended to plug into the 7-pin connector at the back of the Jeep) and add a 4-pin flat-4 connector. But, I was able to change my Jeep order to include the tow package.

Check and see if you have that connector, but I am of the opinion you probably don't and you will need to return that harness. In your case, to add the wiring for a trailer, you are probably going to need to tap into the wiring of both rear tail lights. I would exercise some caution, however, as the new JL adds the Trailer wiring onto its own dedicated circuit and fuses. As such, the wiring to the tail lights is comprised of very small gauge wires and you may need to be careful with overall current draw with the addition of trailer lights.

No, there's nothing up there. Either by feel or by direct inspection. I could really see well when I took out the lens. I didn't care about the round 7 pin end all I wanted was the spliced connection between the wires in the tail light. So no, this solution isn't working and I am not splicing as I have both the LED package and the Safety Backup Sensors are built into the Tail light assembly (not seeing other power supply into the cavity). Back to ground zero.

Hello guys. We are in the final stages of completing our Tow Harness Kit for the new Wrangler JL. We expect to have the harnesses announced later this week and with availability within the next ~15-days. We want to have a kit that is very easy for the end-user to install, is robust from a reliability perspective, and takes advantage of all the knowledge that we've gained from selling tow harnesses for the last 10+ years for TJ's and JK's. I'll post another update here before the end of the week.
I really could use this tow harness as well. CoolTech. If you could also please PM me when it’s available and I will promptly order one as well. Thanks you.

@RC3 Thanks for trying, but no that part won't work. Those connectors are for the JK as CoolTech stated. Everything's changed... when you get back there and look.... my tail light is LED and it's got a parameter sensor built in for the Safety Package (this is why the shape changed it has to protrude beyond the fender). Just damage it and you'll really run up the repair bill.

Definitely not! That's the correct part to add a flat-4 connector to the 2007-2018 JK and it will NOT work on a JL.
@kculp you are both right. I didn't look close enough at the listing. I put in 2018 Rubicon Unlimited, not thinking that the JK and JL are both being produced in '18. This is going to cause some confusion. I'm glad you guys caught that, I was about to order one of those.

Absolutely. As soon as we have the first kits ready I will ping you and also ask for your feedback. We're putting our 10+ years of experience of working with JK harnesses toward a second-to none design for the JL!
Could you add me to your list also

The Cool Tech Tow Harness for the JL is now available for ordering!!

http://www.cooltechllc.com/wrangler-parts-accessories/107-jl-tow-harness-kit.html

Not only the first kit on the market, but we've set the bar very high with features no other Tow Wiring solution has! To wit;

  1. Our solution is "air-gapped" meaning that there is simply no possibility for back-feeding or other interference issues. And, unlike diode-based systems that may diminish power to the lights, we have FULL OEM power to the tail lights. Also, our connections are easier to make, and completely within the interior (protected) area of the cab.
  2. Ours is the ONLY solution that prevents the Jeep's brake lights (when using an aux braking device) from over-riding a turn signal that the tow vehicle has commanded.
  3. Our kit includes a pigtail wire (with connector) so that your aux tow device can "see" a 12v signal whenever the Jeep's brake pedal is applied.
  4. We offer a Deluxe version of the Kit that combines Roadmaster's 6-pin to 7-pin 8' Coiled Umbilical Cord AND RVI's excellent Towed Battery Charger. This allows the MH to continuously charge the Jeep's battery so that your aux braking device will always have power - and your Jeep's battery will be fully charged when you disconnect.
