The moab is like the Corvette Grand Sport, Z06 styling, wheels, tires, brakes without the powerplant. They are great Corvettes, and more than capable, and sell well. Although I had a JKUR and have done a lot of offroading, I looked hard at the Moab. I really loved having at least a rear locker in past rigs, but I have seen some pretty incredible feats with an LSD only rear. I was tempted. Never cared for other specials like the Oscar Mike.

Despite some steep discounts, I passed on the two moabs and bought the JLUR. If the Moab had a rear locker it would be real hard not to consider it with the selec-trac transfer case.

Yeah, I’m sure people would be willing to pay more for a used ‘19 with 5,000 miles than they would for a brand new one (fully loaded w/Sky One Touch & all). [pic attached]

KBB is not the greatest reference point...but believe what you want to.

“IsSa LiMiTeD eDiTiOn ThO!!!”

Quit it with the inferiority complex.

You missed the point. Regardless, you pick the resource and it will have the same result. Everyone who says “who wouldn’t pay $3,000 for the Rubicon” is misinformed and misinforming others. The current real data suggests otherwise.

I chose a Moab because I wanted a Moab. You can choose a Rubicon because you want a Rubicon, but suggesting the resale value is better is incorrect. Sahara yes, Moab no. It’s not like you pay $3000 now and you get $3000 later.

Why not buy a Moab and add $3000 worth of accessories? Since the rear is LSD, you could add a locker to the front and have a great day off road.

Or just get the top of the line (Rubicon) & maintain factory powertrain warranty & do the aesthetic upgrades that the MOAB has.

Trying to put the MOAB at the same level or beyond the Rubicon is...well just no. The MOABs sticker (at least the one I was looking at) even says Sahara on it with an add-on MOAB package.

A better resale comparison would be something like 2013 models (Non-Anniversary Edition Rubicon vs. MOAB)...same options, mileage, area, color, etc.

The Rubicon has (from my knowledge) always been the top trim level & is tried & true & well-known throughout the Jeep community & outside of it... I’d put my money on the Rubicon holding value better than the MOAB down the line, but honestly it’s not an investment so I’ll take my loss regardless.

I looked at both trims when I was shopping this past spring and based on the closeness in price between the two, I went with the Rubicon. I couldn’t justify a few appearance features over all of the technical off-road features on the Rubicon.

Rubicon owners: I bought a Rubicon.

Sahara and Moab owners: I didn't need all the things a Rubicon comes with and I'll never go off-road and I don't need lockers and I don't like the higher fenders and I don't want Rubicon: 4.10 gears, Front & Rear wide-track Dana 44, 4:1 tc, front & rear lockers, e-disco front sway bar. So I bought a Moab/Sahara.
Fixed it to reflect reality... ;)

Rubicon owners: I bought a Rubicon. It's a real Jeep, with 4.10 gears, Front & Rear wide-track Dana 44, 4:1 tc, front & rear lockers, e-disco front sway bar. I got a 6" lift, 37" Mikey Thompson Bajas, Rock sliders to go over my other rock sliders, a high lift jack that isn't tall enough with the new lift. It never leaves the pavement and I wash it twice a day. You bought a minivan.

Sahara and Moab owners: I didn't need all the things a Rubicon comes with and I've gone off-road and did fine without lockers and stock tires.

My girlfriend loves her rubicon, it’s a great daily driver and off-road is unstoppable (so far) people think that it somehow has less options but I don’t see anything the rubicon is missing over Moab/ Sahara. And if you go with the tan interior you don’t get that god awful red dash

Not bad for a Rubicon. Next time maybe she will step up to the Moab.

First of all, NOTHING is more gawd awful than that tan interior. The red dash/stitching is a primary reason I'm getting a Rubi.
Second, the main thing the Rubi misses that the Moab has is full-time 4 wheel drive.
It's all a trade off. I would trade lockers and edisco for FT4x4, but I want high fenders, Rubi interior and beefed up axles. Nobody's right, everybody 's different. Hence:options.
Plus, I'm right.

Really if you think about it the Moab is just like a better Rubicon. Because on-road you can have auto-4wd and they are both about the same off-road. And it looks better. And has a better name.

The only thing you can do with a Rubicon you can't do with a Moab is lock the axles and that is only a crutch for people that don't really know how to wheel.

So anyone who really knows what they are doing of-road would rather have a Moab.
OMG. Did you just say a Jeep without lockers is as capable as one with lockers. Now you are just trolling people.

This!

Theres so many options out there, but none are available in the right combinations!

The closest I can come to a perfect Jeep for my own personal uses Would be a Gladiator Overland with limited slip diff. I think the 3.73 axles would put it at a sweet spot in between the too low for daily driving 4.10 and too high for upsizing tires 3.45. Trouble is that it only comes in the longest possible wheelbase and I scrape enough in an unlimited... :headbang:

Gotta find what works, in a combination that works.

You should have grabbed the Moab and just put on a front locker. The axles/gearing/x-fer case are not as beefy, but a Jeep with a rear LSD and a front locker for those "oh sh*t" moments would be a pretty capable jeep. And it would be great for winter snow driving.
