It didn’t sound like he was let off, but they didn’t arrest him. The way the article read is they are still determining if and what charges will come against him
Look at that accident scene and tell me how he wasn't led away in cuffs. Hell 16 year-olds get arrested and led away in cuffs for shoplifting in my area. This kid's biggest problem is power washing the brains off daddy's truck. [okay maybe there weren't brains - but close]

And...what do "college aspirations" have to do with anything?

I always thought that Texas was tough on crime.

I’m not saying that he shouldn’t have been, I’m just saying that he may not be free and clear.

They will have to do significant investigation to include evaluating the road evidence and doing mathematical equations of tire marks to prove his speed and whether or not he made any evasive action. They will have to get a search warrant to download the truck's computer. Once the evidence is evaluated and it shows that the elements of the offense are fulfilled, in that he was reckless in the operation of the truck, the investigator will take his findings to a judge, who will issue an arrest warrant.

Rolling coal is one of the more stupid things I see on the road. Many of these guys like to give a big soot blast to bicyclists, Prius' and Teslas. There are videos online of guys doing this.

Texas is only tough on crime when it is against the big corps and certain political figures. All other crime, especially violence is highly encouraged. You can't have people riding their bikes in Texas, it reduces the profit potential of gigantic oil...

My bet is on small town, connected family. As for lack of intent, I call bullshit. I can drink and drive without criminal intent, but that doesn't mean I am not responsible.
As for the rolling coal - I have a road bike and ride a couple of days a week. If some asshat shit-for-brains rolls coal on me, they better be prepared for an ass whipping if I ever catch them out somewhere. Rolling coal on an unprotected person is simple assault in and of itself, not to mention the danger from reduced visibility for other motorists.
Now I'm all pissed off and was trying to ease into the weekend...

One of the dumbest statements I've seen posted on here.

This is lawyer-speak for "my client is a white male."

Thankfully, the DA seems to be waiting with rapt anticipation for this to be handed over to his office.

Interesting, usually only Texans have so little humor on anything critical about Texas...

This is in my neck of the woods.

There is a witness that stated that numb nuts drove by the pack of training cyclists once and buzzed them, but that wasn’t enough so he made another pass and swerved over dangerously close to them intentionally to try to make certain that they got a face full of his diesel smoke. At that point he lost control and made contact with a half dozen of them, injuring some of them severely. Witness stated that after he mowed them down he asked “Am I going to go to jail?” No. For reasons I’ll leave up to others to determine, he didn’t go to jail. It’s being “investigated”.

Nah, your statement is indeed dumb. There’s plenty of crimes that Texas is tough on. Just not this one or certain ones like these. For some reason…

Try smoking a joint. Or talking trash to police officers or videoing them executing their duties while in public. Or terminating a pregnancy after 6 weeks.
