I've only got the front regular sized flaps and I've never removed them for off-roading. They've never had an issue. That includes everything from rock crawling in Moab to muddy ruts in Kentucky and throughout the midwest and the thick forests and rocks of Jericho Mountain, New Hampshire.
I can't speak for the rears, though. But I'm frankly surprised I haven't torn the fronts completely off. They don't even show battle scars. So I put a set on my wife's JLUR, too.
