I’m looking for recommendations to replace the Unconnect 3 in my 2020 JLU, that will not break the bank

Why do you want to replace it, what features are you looking for?

You currently have UConnect 4, 5 is in the newer jeeps. There are quite a few Android options IIRC. Do a search on google for "replacement head unit, JLWranglerforum" and you will see a ton of what people have done in the forum.

Without spending $1500 or so, I think the options are terrible. If you go to the jeep 7" screen, you lose the volume knob. If you add the volume knob, then you get the dual climate switches... with out dual.. its sloppy.

Aftermarket, at least the cheap ones, you will lose the steering wheel controls, or the back up camera...

My Uconnect 3 touch screen is failing. I think I will have to replace it with a newer Uconnect 3...

It’s simply a trash head unit. I want to keep the rear camera and would like Apple CarPlay.

Thanks. I misstated Unconnect 4; it’s the Unconnect

i wonder if my Uconnect 3 is covered under the extended warranty. Perhaps I should look at a replacement 3.

Take a look at crutchfield, if you choose your jeep (2020 wrangler unlimited) it'll tell you what radios can fit in the dash and what adapters you need for it to fit and work correctly.

The brutal part will be the adapters lol. From looking at crutchfield, there's some good wireless carplay radios for around $400.... and then you'll need about $400 in a dash kit and adapters.

I noticed there's other companies selling kits to say, retrofit a larger Sony XAV radio into a JL wrangler. There are options from JVC and kenwood I think that are sorta plug-and-play to get a 10" radio that cost around $1500. You can also go to infotainment and they'll sell you a uconnect 5 10" radio kit (it's expensive).

There's a lot of options!

My 2018 JL 5" radio came with Uconnect 3. After the update that fixes the slow clock, mine works great and sounds great after upgrading the speakers.

Still no apps, so I added a phone holder to get access to my phone when needed.

Interesting! I definitely have the slow clock issue. Sine my 2020 JLU is the basic model, how can I update it?

It gets updated from a file on a USB memory stick, as far as I know the dealer has to do it. Here's the write up from when mine was done under warranty on 03/05/21.

They will probably charge you for this, but I can say I haven't had any issues since the update.
