Commercial-grade marine paint will stay on rubber/tires but might be tedious to apply precisely to lettering. You may also want to try an acrylic paint pen although it is primarily for indoor applications. The acrylic paint pen might be the choice for spare tire once you flip the others, since you have the option to flip the spare too and it would hide the body facing lettering where it still shows.
great suggestions thx

There is a layer if white rubber under the black rubber on RWL tires. Then the black rubber is shaved off the raised part so the white shows through. You can see on some RWL tires with bad rock or curb rash the black rubber scraped away and white rubber showing through. Blackwall tires don’t have that strip of white rubber in the sidewall.

Try some Krylon Fusion in flat black. Make sure the letters are clean. Spray some into a cup and use a piece of sponge to dab it onto the letters. It will work on the spare, but nothing you can do will last long on the road. If you use that nasty tire shine crap it will come right off.

Simply flip and forget! I also have K02S with white letters (on the inside including spare) but never even think about it.

However, completely understand the issue is different for those of us with an OCD tendency. ;)

Maybe you can clock the spare to a position where the white letters won't show over the tailgate.

Good idea. However, I noticed on my JLU this would only make a difference when topless. With the top on, the rear wiper is in way.

how did that look/hold up?
You couldn't even notice it and I never had to touch it up. Key is to get the satin and just cover the letters with a few light coats.

If you off-road at all you'd lose the painted on stuff from rubbing on rocks and such. If you don't wheel at all then that would be best to just paint them.

The shoe dye approach stands up pretty well to off-roading rubbing. It soaks into the white rubber a bit.

Hi all,
I’m purchasing a set of KO2s for my Jeep and they are only available in OWL (outside white lettering) in my size. I prefer black sidewall. I understand I can flip the tires, but am wondering if there are other options for removing the white lettering…. Appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

In another life and forum my name was whitewalls©️... cuz I kept dragging the side wall on curb... wore off the lettering but created a white ring. Rotated tires so I had a matching set.
