So I am probably gonna get a remote start for my 2020 Jeep JLU automatic transmissionI’m curious to know if there’s any content on the installs I’m handy I can do it myself. I just need I guess like the wiring diagram and where people tap in. Also, I was wondering what are the best companies? I don’t put cheap stuff in my vehicle and I’m just wondering what’s good out there with good range and reliability thank you guys appreciate it.

So, this is what I'm putting in a 2014 CR-V.

https://www.crutchfield.com/S-tAaiWGeZey7/p_794ADSHCX/iDatastart-CMHCXA0.html

I haven't done it yet, but I'll be on vacation soon. Its instructions are literally just wiring pinout info for the device itself. You have to figure out what the wires are on your own vehicle. The nice thing is that the company made a vehicle-specific T-harness to take care of MOST of the connections, which I bought. Did the usual "YouTube research" to find the info about the Honda.

Range is up to you, based on accessories. It would work with the factory key fob, but only a hundred feet at best. I ordered the optional remotes that are good up to 3000 feet. I think they also have some sort of smartphone app, but 1/2 mile range is good enough for me.

I've never heard of iData, but Crutchfield is a good company that I've dealt with for decades, and they don't deal in garbage electronics. If you go this way, look up what you think you need on the website, but then talk to one of their remote-start guys, rather than just ordering it from the website. He will give you good info, and double-check what you are ordering.

I'll let you know how my install went.

If you have experience with automotive electronics, you can probably do the installation yourself. However, keep in mind that installing remote start systems often requires a good knowledge of automotive wiring, relays, and security systems, in addition to the need to bypass certain elements like key chips.

Did the install, and it went fairly well- but not perfect. Once I downloaded the firmware to the iDataStart module, they gave me access to the Honda's wiring info on their website, so that was helpful. Got everything connected and checked all operations. Everything worked perfectly.

Then, I secured everything and put the vehicle back together. Of course (as you can probably guess) things didn't work after that. I took the steering column apart again, checked all my connections, looked for crimped wires, etc. Nothing. Disconnected all the connections from the car, and reconnected them back to stock. Car started with the key. Reconnected the module to see if I could reprogram it. No need! The lights on it were flashing green, just like they were when it was working, so I ran it through its paces. Everything worked perfectly. I have been testing it over and over and over again for the last few days, and it seems to be fine.

All I can figure is the the Module "glitched" while I was putting things back together. Once I unplugged it, and plugged it back in, everything reset back to normal!

In my occupation, we call it "cycling power to the control module, and re-establishing communications". It sounds more impressive that way! 😜
