Red Cone is my Jeep club's adopted trail, so thank you all in advance for running and enjoying it. We opened it a few weeks ago and I had the unique opportunity to run it backwards as I needed to open the gate at the south end. The one-way part is only from the summit down to the Webster Pass saddle. Some of the obstacles this year have gotten a slight bit harder - not enough to change the overall trail rating - but if you're a regular up there it's starting to get noticeable. The holes on the slope that are just above the saddle and below the main hill have gotten deeper and are a few degrees steeper than the main hill - about 26% according to the display on my dash. That one frame twisty part in the trees has gotten deeper as well.

There's plenty of parking at the Handcart parking area for campers / trailers, especially during the week.

Darn - the 18th is a Monday. Maybe I'll take the day off, I never get tired of that area.
I currently have nobody to go with, and am not thrilled about doing this alone for the first time.

If I went Sunday the 17th, or Tue the 19th, does that change anything for anyone?

Sunday would open it for a lot of people. Tuesday is still a work day for most people.

I can 100% be there Sunday, Aug 17th, if anyone wants to meet that day. I am driving from Minnesota, staying in Keystone (should be there late Saturday)

If not, for those who have done it, if I have done Hell's revenge in Moab, Alpine loop in Lake City Co, Ouray etc already without any trouble ...

How hard would Red Cone be fore me?

I have the Rubicon, so I think i'm good going down the final hill in 4 low, 1st or 2nd gear right?

You should have no problems.

There are a couple of key obstacles to get over but outside of those obstacles, it's a fairly mild trail.

And any Rubicon should have what they need to get down the hill fine.

If this werent on a Monday Id be tempted. Just moved to CO and have been loving the exploration so far.
You need to do Red Cone. Work can wait. Rocky Mountain Fever is a thing.

I'm 90% in for that Sunday but just starting a new job and taking that week+ off for the Moab trip in October not trying to rock the boat

Sunday I can do. Happy to show you around. Any stock Rubicon can do it, the downhill descent is attention getting more than anything else. I usually go down it in second (manual transmission).

I'll have a word with your new boss. There will be plenty of time for long days at work once winter sets in, summer we all make the most of. Welcome to Colorado! :)

Can confirm, it's definitely gotten a tad more challenging in the past 2-3 years in the areas you mentioned. I might just have to take off the 18th...the 17th I could do for sure.

Appreciate the welcome and luckily I only work 7:30-4:30 M-F so just another reason to not rock the boat.

We have also made the most of the move, got here June 6th and have gone a new place to explore 4 out of 6 weekends. Next planned trip is Middle St Vrain and the T33 crash site on the 26th

I still haven't made it up to T33. MSV is a good trip though.

MSV is one of my favorites in that area. Gorgeous with a great water crossing.

Make sure you join Mile-Hi Jeep club (the club @Powelligator's in) as well plan trips to both Ouray and Moab.
