My a/c has been struggling this summer, but only in the afternoons. I am parked in the garage or shade most of the time. I notice the air coming out of the vents is warm in the afternoon even after a long period of highway driving.

I feel pretty confident I would’ve noticed it performing this poorly in years past. I had it checked out and they said it blew 56 degrees. It’s definitely not blowing that cold in the afternoon. It does blow cold in the morning.

Is there a reliable way to test if the recirculate button is working? My wife’s car it runs faster when I switch.

edit:
I was able to see it opening and closing when the glove compartment is off. The cabin air filter isn’t installed correctly. I’m going to just buy a new one.

Recirculate isn't your issue here, even if it isn't working. If it wasn't working the light would flash when you pressed it. It also makes the vents louder when engaged.

56f is incredibly high for A/C output unless it's like 100+ degrees out. Suggest getting it evac'd and recharged to see if it's low.

I already had it checked and they said it didn’t need a recharge. I’m in Phoenix so 100 is a forgone conclusion. Still, it’s done a better job in years past. I thought it was the recirc because if it’s pulling outside air all the time, it’s going to struggle to cool it down sufficiently. My next stop might be the dealer unfortunately.

You can't know how low it is until you evacuate it. You need to evacuate it to see if it's low. It could be down 100-200g and you'd never know because the pressures would look identical.

Edit; looks like spec is a maximum of 59f at 100 degrees. Thought I doubt it was 100f where they were doing the actual testing.

Thanks. They didn’t evacuate it, just checked the pressure. I’ll try again. Unfortunately for me, it probably was 100. That’s just life here. But it isn’t blowing 59 or even 65 midday even though when I’m on the highway.
