I have good news everyone, drilling a hole in the washer fluid tank lid solved my leaking rear washer nozzle. I also noticed the lid hasn’t popped open anymore either most likely due to not having the pressure built up in the tank. It’s been a week but I will continue to monitor the situation and report back if it starts leaking again.

If this is a legit long term solution then you might just win the Jeep Engineer of the Year award. You certainly have my vote!!

So you drilled a tiny hole and have used the washer with no drips afterwards?
So simple... if all other solutions could be this good.

Hahah, *fingers crossed* that it is a permanent solution to this minor annoyance.

Correct, there are a couple drips right after using the rear washer nozzle but it’s not leaking like it was.

So is this going to be a recall eventually when FCA sees enough people with the same issue @JeepCares are...It's a tad frustrating to clean the Jeep and have that ugly drip streak on the back windshield every time upon return. Bleh.
Yup, a recall... They will have you go to a Dealership Service Dept. and have sit and wait for an hour or whatever while they drill a small hole in the windshield fluid reservoir cap. While you are there the Service Writer will put the squeeze on you to do this and do that to your JL and oh yes, push the special nitrogen to your tires offering.. ;)

Mine does the same thing. No it wont get a recall, its not safety related, just a pain in the rear.
But hearimg that people drill pressure relief holes does sound like a solution, but tales away the water seal on the reservoir. Maybe a check valve of some type or flap would work. Something to relieve pressure, but still keeps it from filling up if front of vehicle is submerged.

If you take the JL in water deep enough to submerge that reservoir cap, you will have more issues to be concerned about then a tad of dirty water in the windshield washer fluid reservoir.

Jury is still out if a drilled hole will relieve the drip issue, but I will be quick to drill the hole if others say the hole did the trick for them.

I'll wait til others say it has been weeks without a drip since they drilled before I consider hole drilling a true fix.

Ever hear of a snorkel kit ? Jeeps are designed to be totally submerged. Hense why the washer reservoir is sealed. Drilling a hole is similar to all vehicles because reverse pressure will push past the weakest seal, hense the rear drip.

No, they are not designed to be "totally submerged". Snorkel (very very few will install) or not, there are other, more paramount things to consider if you go into deep water, then the windshield washer fluid reservoir pin hole. Research the caveats of even partially submerging and you will see that the washer reservoir hole is the least of your concerns.

I might add that very very very few, will ever take their JL/JLU into water deep enough to see water over or even close to going over the , washer reservoir cap.

And here I though I was smart disconnecting the line at the quick release to my top. No drip on the window and I haven’t seen any on the interior from the line. Maybe I will remember to connect it when I need to use it. ...maybe...

Add mine to the list, nasty streak down the back window. Very noticeable through the rearview mirror. This won't be a recall most likely, just a TSB (technical service bulletin) once engineering figures out the cure. Hate to drop it off with service for just that, and that's the only real complaint so far on mine.

Retired but working with benefits.
Same here, super annoying, but not sure there's anything they can do about it.
Hi, maybe not, but then, maybe. Our Sport does this as well and I think a one way check valve would solve the problem. (Not really a problem but more of a design issue. The pump for the washer fluid fills the washer tube, then bumps, low air pressure at the back window, inertia of acceleration, or a combination of all and more causes some fluid to dribble out.)
Now off to locate an inline check valve ..... :)

It would be easy enough to put a small diaphragm on it to prevent that issue.

Hi catdaddy63,

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing this concern with your JL as well. Please message us with your VIN and mileage so that we can document this.
