I have a pixel 8 and connected to uconnect over bluetooth. I've noticed that if I receive an RCS message, I don't get a notification and the messages/contact isn't even showing up in the "message" section of the head unit. I've noticed that messages received by SMS show up fine.

Google searches have led to a few with the same problem, but nothing here on jlwranglerforums and no answers. I'm wondering if anybody else experienced this or is it just something with me.

Thanks!

I am having the same issue with my 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I have a Pixel 9 pro XL and just recently, I am not receiving any RCS text messages. This is very frustrating. I have yet to find a solution.

Pixel 7 Pro here and my wife has a Pixel 6 Pro... Same on all our vehicles. SMS gets the notification but RCS does not.

I forgot about this thread. Still have the problem....

Update: Did a google search now and it sounds like it's a general problem. Somebody elsewhere posted that they have issues getting RCS messages on tesla. So it sounds like maybe it's an rcs thing and not a jeep thing?

I wonder how those wireless carplay boxes would handle RCS. Might be an option.

I know it's an older thread but I have a 2024 and have wondered why some messages come through and others don't. I never realized that it had to do with RCS until this thread. I'll pay closer attention to see if that is what it is in the future. I have a Samsung S23 Ultra on T-Mobile.

I still have the same pixel 8 but I also have t-mobile. I don't think that's the commonality among us though, I just think it's when the provider offers rcs.

I've been tempted to get one of those $50 android auto wireless dongle adapters. I have a feeling it will fix it but not sure what other annoyances it may bring.

It may, but my 2024 has a wireless connection built in and mine still doesn't show them.

Interesting enough, I also have T-Mobile, however; I don't believe the issue is carrier related.

From what I'm being told, it's an issue with the extra data used in an RCS message compared to a regular SMS message. In simpler terms, RCS is treated like an open chat between the parties involved and SMS is a more basic one way send.

With RCS, you can both see when someone is typing among other features like encryption, animated reactions, etc. UConnect right now can't deal with all the extra stuff.

Solution I was given was to disable RCS on your phone and use the old boring SMS protocol. The use of RCS is not a priority because it encourages engagement with messaging while driving as a conversation which is a distraction.

I had a similar problem and found out the sender’s messages were going through an sms api that couldn’t deliver RCS messages properly if the other person didn’t have chat features enabled. Once I asked them to switch to regular SMS or update their settings, messages started coming through again. So it might be a good idea to check if your contacts are using something like an sms api that’s causing the hiccup.
