I kind of have the same issue but never posted on it as its only happened twice. I was probably listening to Spotify which is like 95% of what I use, with phone plugged in to USB 1. Sport S with the Tech group. It only happened when I turned the volume on the knob down a little but when I let it go it kept going down. I turn it back up with knob and it was fine, both times.

I have the same issue. Dropped mine off yesterday for the Cruise Control recall and asked them to check this as well. They found a service bulletin with a subsequent software update needed. Picking it up later today so we'll see if it continues to happen.
Me too. Also my AM would have a shrill noise.
They did the software upgrade and seemed to fix it.
However; still every once in a while the volume goes way down. I change the station and it goes back to normal.

OK, glad I'm not going crazy.. I too have the same issue on mine. I took it in a week ago and I'm sure they would have updated the PCM if I needed it. It keeps happening to me. I think only on FM as well. I will need to try to fully unpair my phone and verify it's not some alerts or something which is causing this.

I too thought it was speed-sensing volume, but I turned that off and it didn't fix it.

I think it IS related to HD radio, but there's seemingly no way to turn OFF HD radio. HD radio is NOT the same as satellite radio, fyi.

IIRC, what happens is your radio tries to get an HD radio signal, if there is one, and then uses that, and if it fails, it has to switch back, and forth, and back, and forth. So I think this might be what we're hearing, an attenuation during and from these switched inputs.

Mine does this but it's always when my phone is connected either through Bluetooth or Android Auto whenever I get some sort of push notification. Doesn't matter if it's from an email, text, WhatsApp, sports score or whatever. It's annoying but I haven't looked it up to see if it can be turned off. Happens with the satellite radio, not sure about FM but I assume it's universal. For me it feels like the overall volume comes down but the driver's side goes down the most.

So its been a week with the updated software and I haven't had the issue again yet. I'll update if that changes any but I'm really hoping not.

Keep an eye on your HD Radio signal. I get very spotty HD signal on some FM stations and experience the exact same symptoms you are describing.
Only the 8.4" has HD radio. This is happening on 7" it seems

Happened again today. It seems like when it happens, it happens often. Then it's good for a day. But today it was happening on both FM and SXM.

Then I put it on Bluetooth Media (paired to my iPhone) and it was fine and did not fluctuate once!

WTH?!?!

Anyone been to the dealer and had success yet? I think our 7" is non-OTA-upgradeable so only the dealer could fix this I think..

One other data-point, when I was at a stop light, I swear as I rolled fwd it happened and thats when I came to a complete stop, and it stayed quiet/attenuated until I moved again. It was weird. I wonder if it is related to ESS. I had ESS unplugged for a while and now I have it auto-disabled (Tazer JL) but plugged-in. I may unplug it again and see if there's a link.

I have had the same issue! Guess I will have to ask when I take it in next. I also have navigation issues so maybe both are related to the software

Nothing from @JeepCares ???? This is the most legit problem on the JL with the 7" screen so far. I mean the steering issue is very subjective, though evidence states it's for real, but this issue is super obvious. I wish it did it on my test drive, I would have had them flash it before I left. Now I have to go all the way back and hope they believe me (it only happens some times/some days, it seems).

What was the end result with this?

Iā€™ve had it now happen three different times. Itā€™s like certain FM stations are ā€œmutedā€ to a low volume so you crank the knob up and then switch to another station that comes in super loud. I listen to mostly sports radio and have only had the problem around lunch time all 3 occasions. Iā€™m wondering if itā€™s an HD radio/signal issue with these new Jeep radios. It happened right before this post as Iā€™m sitting in my driveway and just turned the radio on. I shut it off for a few minutes when I went inside and then came back out to turn it on and it was blasting from where I left it. Comeptley random!
No end result - it's still intermittently an issue. It's definitely only the FM radio, any other audio source I choose behaves as expected.
Iā€™m having same exact issue. FM only. Can really notice it because itā€™s sports talk radio. Volume drops really low then back to normal in a few seconds. Happens pretty consistently. Would love to hear if anyone gets a fix. Iā€™m going in for routine maintenance next week, would love to have an idea to give them

Would be nice to see what @JeepCares says about this.... It's REALLY annoying..
Brand new JLUR here. Also happening to me on certain FM stations. 7" screen.

I've experienced in my Ford Edge, it was more pronounced with certain local stations. I wrote it off as something to do with the radio signal itself as it was only ever with HD stations.

There's a recall that addresses this. More info on the jlwranglerforums homepage.
