Has anyone seen or heard of someone producing a larger aftermarket radiator? I love this rig but the real bummer is if you work it hard ie. Ambient temps get warmer and pulling up a steep grade, especially when pulling a trailer...not out 4wheeling, but highway use. I have the Tazer and run the fan on high when I anticipate the high heat situation but it still gets too hot, easily getting to 235 on the off road gauge...but I'm sure many of you already know all about this.

Just wondering if anyone had info...

If you are worried about heat, one way is to add Water Wetter or Purple Ice. You can get good results just putting it in with the coolant. But, if you really want results, drain the coolant and put in distilled water with Water Wetter/Purple Ice.

I did this on my racecar (at this point, it was still a work-in-progress) one day. Was at the track on a hot day and the radiator hose blew off. Lost most of the coolant. Refilled with tap water and a friend had some Water Wetter.

Same day, same car, back-to-back runs - I saw 30*F cooler water temps.

Of course, if you are seeing cold weather, you don't want to do this in the winter. But, for summer, it's great. If you do this, the best way is to drain everything possible. Then fill with the hose. Leave the drain out as you fill, then start the engine and run it for a minute or two (just to work coolant out of the engine). Shut it off, finish draining, the fill it up with the distilled water.

I seriously considered that route but I'm looking for a more permanent, year round solution... I'm at 6k feet elevation and need the freeze protection.
Thanks for the heads up!

I never understood why they didn't make the scoops on the Rubi hoods functional. From they way they are situated, it looks like they will suck hot air from the engine bay at highways speeds. I wonder if there is a mod that makes them functional and if it actually works.

Yeah, rad is your best bet.

Will a thicker radiator fit? I think I read or watched a video somewhere that showed it doesn't. Assuming a thicker radiator with more rows doesn't exist, then your options become limited. The best bet is to do 2 things:

1) Get more air into the radiator. This could mean an aftermarket grille that allows more air through, or a similar solution.
2) Make sure that all the air that comes through the grille goes through the radiator. This means looking between the grille and radiator and making sure air can't spill off the sides or bottom. You might have to fabricate some plastic pieces to block off holes or other areas where it's not airtight.

Now, how crazy do you want to be? I had a Trans Am that I turned into a racecar. I took the fog lights out and made ducts that fed air directly to the rad. You could try figuring out a way to duct more air to the radiator.

I’m thinking of replacing the grille with a Gladiator grille but have to find out if the Gladiator grille with trail cam is the same as the cutout for the bolt lock on the JL.
when towing my UTV, the JL has hit 240…I think these engines go into limp mode around 250.

The radiators are more than capable of keeping the system cool.
My Jeep will regularly see temps in the 112-114C range when on long freeway hills or idling in bumper to bumper traffic. Once it gets to that temp either the fan comes on or thermostat opens and within about 10 seconds the temp goes all the way down to 89C, that tells me the rad is more than capable.

I got this Info from Jeep after being VERY persistent...

In my opinion this way too warm. Maybe great for emission standards but not longevity. If I could have it NEVER exceed 215°f (101°c) I'd be tickled.

Just for referance, I'm running in the American Southwest where surface temps can reach 120°f with NO problem...AND at times pulling a travel trailer or ATV tandem trailer with a Honda Pioneer weighing 1700 lbs.

Running light on the highway, getting groceries or on trails is never a problem.

I’ve been told by my dealer and several on this forum that 230 ish is more than okay around town, cruising down forest roads, etc even when it’s close to freezing out ?

when my fan comes on, it’s usually for 10 second bursts.

Just called Cold Case and they don't make a radiator for the diesel...and although friendly enough, the conversation was SHORT...pretty much just "Nope, good luck".

So much for that outfit...lol
