Just wanted to share a little job I did today to get rid of my cord in the windshield dilemma. I hard wired my radar detector to the passenger side compartment and used the 10 amp supplied ignition wire that is bundled in with the 4 Aux wires if you have them.
The wire I have coming out of the mirror surround is a braided and a fused wire from a mirror tap. Some will ask why didn't u just use the mirror tap. I know two people that have thrown codes poking into mirrors and one that had the rear camera that comes up in the mirror on a new Vet burn up. Cost around 700 to replace it. So I just wanted to stay off that circuit and use the ones that are supplied to be used.
After I got the proper wire length I needed with the braided wire coming out of the mirror plastic to the detector, I tied a half hitch knot on the inside of the mirror plastic and right up to the grommet. Then if the detector comes loose off of the windshield, it wont tear my wires out or drop the nice detector to the dash and floor. The knot is just snug so u don't mess the wires up. Not tying King Kong down here.
I did buy some nice wire protector sheath so it looks factory. It was the cherry on the cake for the end of the job
Difficulty level between 1 and 5 is a 1, if you understand simple wiring, and a 10 if u don't know what a wire is
