See as though I enjoy rock crawling, I'm realizing skids are needed. That said, I'm trying to keep the underside looking as little as obvious that I off-road. The front diff took a couple major hits that sheered half the bolts. The plan is to replace the cover with a new mopar cover and bolts and get a front diff skid. My question is, and pardon my lack of knowledge here, is the cover on the front D44 the same on all generations? I have a 22 JLUR-XR with the front diff that doesn't have a drain plug. I just want to make sure I get the correct cover.

The JL front cover is unique to the JL. JK and older are different.

Within the years of the JL (2018-present) there was no change to the JL cover.

The M186 and M210 front axles have different covers.

Also consider the Dana Advantek covers if you want something more stout from Dana. Plus they look great.

i have been giving them a strong consideration. But, I want to be able to retain the warranty on the gears so as long as I keep the factory appearanceas best I can under the skid, I shouldbe good.

That’s why I recommended the Dana covers if you want better protection. OEM axle manufacturer’s own beefier diff covers wouldn’t void your gear warranty.

The front diff skids change with the elimination of the drain plug around MY 21. You'll want to make sure you get a skid made for the later version.

Would me opening up either axle and replacing the cover void the warranty?

Only if you do something like forget to put oil in afterwards.

How do you think adding aftermarket diff covers is somehow going to void any part of your warranty? I have 3.5” lift, full belly skids, aluminum inner fenders, true bead locks with 37” mud terrain tires, and a Genesis dual battery conversion amongst many other mods. It is obvious that I wheel my Jeep just by crawling under it. I’ve had 0 issues with the couple of warranty items I’ve needed. The Magnuson-Moss act puts the onus on the dealership to prove that your modifications caused the defect. How are they going to prove that a beefier diff cover caused anything?
