My Jeep is an automatic but my CTS is 6-speed. It has somewhat similar final drive gearing to the Jeep meaning at 70mph in 6th gear it is around 2000rpm. Driving around town I'm mostly in 5th. At or above 40mph I'll go to 6th. This car probably has more torque and definitely less weight so it is reasonable to drive in 6th at speeds above 40mph, but you have to downshift if you want more response.

I haven’t figured out why Jeep did go 3.73 with the manual trans on the lower models. The 3.45 where manageable ish with the stock tires but 3.73 would have been the sweet spot imo after driving for a year with 33” tires and 3.45 gears it sucked the fun out of driving the Jeep. About a month ago I bought front and rear rubicon axles and installed them it brought 6th gear into play finally. The Jeep now actually manages the grades around my house with ease. I plan on going up to 35’s soon as these tires wear out. The debate is I do long trips and I’m not sure if I’ll stay 35’s after those wear out. So I may re-gear to 4.88 so I can run 37’s

Wow... I'm at sea level. JL sport, 33s on stock gears. I use 6th all the time. Shift into 6th right around 60, no problems at all cruising 65 mph at 1700 to 1800 RPM. Sometimes I grab 5th to climb a hill, use 4th if I really gotta pass someone.
You are exactly where I'm at with my 2dr Rubicon...

When my Rubi was stock and now that I have 37s and 4.88 gears its the same, I am in 6th at like 50. Driving around at 45mph on normal streets I am in 5th. Never have any problems passing without downshifting but if I need to I do a quick 5th to 4th or 6th to 4th shift and its fine.

When I had a sport with 33s it was the case where I was basically always in 4th. The gear ratio in those axles is not designed for anything bigger than stock.

6th is great if you're driving across the Dakotas, Manitoba or Saskatchewan but as soon as there's a hill or a headwind, it's time to drop a cog or 2.
