A couple questions: If I unbolt these and push them into the door and only rely on the strap, do I keep the bolt screwed into the hole? Also, I have heard about the door check scratching paint because it still sticks out a bit even though it is "pushed in." Anyone have a photo of what it looks like pushed in and/or how to stop it from scratching the paint? Thanks!

Can't help on the scratching part besides maybe taping it so it doesn't flop around.. I always store those bolts in the rear cargo tray when I have my doors off.

I'd leave the bolt out, tape over the jamb and tape over the head of the check/detent. Gorilla Tape is pretty thick and should stay put.
