I’ve reached the point of my overland build (JLUR) that I’d like to start adding some amor/protection to my vehicle to have a little more peace of mind on the trail.

Like most, my build has been incremental over time and so I’m wondering what I should prioritize and add first.

Here is what I’ve been thinking in terms of priority but I’d love to get feedback from others as I’m new to most of this. (Some of these items I already have)

1. Front/rear bumpers
2. Rock sliders (skids)
3. Front/rear differential skid
4. Gas tank skid?
5. ????

What would you say are the parts of the vehicle that I should prioritize and add protection to?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

I'd add engine, transmission and/or transfer skid plates first. Full disclosure: my approach here is informed by how I've used my motorcycles, and less so, my YJ when I owned it.

Skid plates have paid dividends frequently enough that they're always on my radar now. Just my 2¢. Safe Jeepin'.

A hard hit that bent one of the steel mount points. The presence of the skid plate prevented case perforation.

1. Engine/trans
2. Bumpers (including replacing that odd plastic factory skid under the front bumper)
3. Diffs

I already have rockers, but I would put that #2 otherwise.

What kind of wheeling do you plan on doing mostly? Crawling or trails? What kind of bumpers do you have now? plastic or steel? Engine and trans skids would be high on my list no matter what. Pretty sure all models have a factory skid on the gas tank. I'd also look at rock sliders/rocker guards for side protection. Never know when you might slide towards a tree or big rock. Then bumpers and other armor.
