Ignik here as well. I like the size of it and ease of packing it...including the folding legs. Looks good and puts out decent heat. I agree on using the lava rocks too.

I’m all about miniaturization due to overlanding/camping in my 2dr. I’m experimenting with this one. All my gear is small. Super compact and very aesthetic flame. Can even cook on it using the heat deflectors.

Whenever I see demos of these ammo can fire pits at offroad shows, they all seem to be covered in black soot. Anyone have one that has a has a proper mixer to get the propane / air mixture correctly for efficient burning?

This is what I like about the tripod torch. Yes it soots on a low burn but it is a simple wipe of the tube.

I made one out of a Harbor Freight Ammo can, an amazon burner, a 5lb bag of lava rock, and some patience and a drill. It ended up costing me about 45 bucks...it is a flame thrower if you crank it all the way, so by all means, get the cheapest mass-produced one out there if you don't feel like fiddling with it. The picture is on probably equivalent to medium heat. As far as soot, there is a screw at the bottom of the burner I bought to adjust.....not much black soot once I figured out how to adjust it.

I went with the overland from Tacticool. It comes with the stand, grill, 8' braided hose, lighter and a nice bag.

I use this one also. It is very easy to store and easy to use. It packs up small and puts out plenty of heat. Everything is in one bag. By easy, I mean I use it more than I thought I would because it is so easy to set up and take down that I actually use it.

Soot is a byproduct of by design incomplete combustion to produce an orange/yellow flame; eliminating soot would result in a blue flame.

Our camping rig has a lot more room. In the old days, we packed wood and had a real fire. Then old age and smoke sensitivity lead us to a propane fire pit. But I'm kind of frugal and burning a 5 gallon tank of propane every evening got to be kinda spendy. Last year we went to a Solo fire pit with the pellet ring. A bag of pellets is about 6 bucks and lasts about 3 hours in the Bonfire size. Pretty much smokeless. Comes in various sizes.
