If anyone is interested in adapting a power port for a JL Wrangler with the ACC, there is a method that would only cost approximately $13. Here is the power port adapter on Amazon (https://a.co/d/8LQnh2l) that allows access to the power of the ACC for a dash cam.
If you remove the cover around rearview mirror you will see a clip with 4 wires to the left. Remove the clip by pulling the red clasp toward you and push in and pull out the wire clip. The top tan wire of the ACC is ground/negative and the bottom yellow/green wire is positive. All you would need to do is place the adapter black wire to the tan and the red adapter wire to the yellow/green.

Hi, this is great thanks for posting! I will be looking in to installing a dashcam soon and this makes it so clean and easy. did you take a picture of the inside wiring of the rearview that you connected to?

I’ll have to go back and take another picture. It’s straightforward. There are 4 wires. Top wire is tan and it’s negative/Ground, bottom wire is power it is yellow/green striped. You take the adapter wires and carefully place them inside the clip containing the wires. I then taped them and powered it right up. Easy and best solution I found for a dash cam without having wires running into the console.

Here is a youtube video of something similar but this individual actually tapped the wires. The kit on amazon is not as invasive since you are not splicing wires, just inserting the adapter wires into the original wire harness clip.

Is the yellow/green wire ignition triggered or constant power?

I did this on my ram with the mirror auto dimmer. Very clean install for a dash camera. Unfortunately with my JL i didn't have a power source and ran the wire. One thing that happened to me is when i placed the wire in the windshield frame and bolted it back up i got the dreaded rattle sound you get when the windshield bolts aren't tight. They were tight but the little gap from the wire was enough to allow the noise. I had to move it around to a spot that let the windshield bezel close more. It was only probably a mm difference but got rid of the rattle/ tapping sound.

It's triggered only when the car is in "run" mode. Acc will not turn it on. It shuts off when the car is off, so there is no drain.

In the past, I've used the harness tape that has felt around it. That helps to buffer quite a bit of noise.
