Hey there. I just got my first Jeep, a 2020 JLRU. So far I love it, and am in the middle of a road trip across Canada. I just backed up into a parking spot and a guy told me my engine sounded like it was knocking, and that this is common issue with Chrysler vehicles. The engine sounds okay to me, but I have very little knowledge of Jeeps or engines in general. Can anyone tell me is this sounds like a normal pentastar engine?

Normal.

The guy saying this was a problem with Chrysler vehicles probably remembers the model of Chrysler car (can't remember) built about 20 years ago. It had a v6 with the exhaust wrapping unprotected near the back of the engine. It would cook an oil port which would cause issues and typically would first show up under heavy load and throw a code also.

Every manufacturer has it's bad models. The Toyota 22R engine slinging oil by 60k miles, Ford/Mazda CD4E transmission, etc, etc.

Good to know it’s normal. I knew I should post here before I started worrying about anything. Thanks for saving me to a trip to the dealer y’all!
