Had a number of times when my windshield washer fluid wasn’t spraying. I remember a couple of times that it would not spray on the early part of the drive, but later in the journey it would work fine. On one occasion I opened and closed the hood, and it worked fine after.

I did a search and to my surprise I saw that the orange rainX could be the issue.

I swabbed my tank and noticed what seem like a gel-like substance. This may be like sludge in the pump, lines, and nozzles.

If this gel-like substance does not form from basic blue washer fluid, then it may explain the intermittency: A relation to temperature of the lines, pump and movement of the hood.

From the looks of this gel, it seems to me that compressed air could help but could also be just a temporary solution:

- I cleaned the tank with vinegar and water.

- Changed the pump 68310928AA and screen/grommet 68382598AA.

I’ll go through a half tank of vinegar and water mix in the coming days and will swap over to a basic blue washer fluid.

Yep. You discovered the exact reason why I advise against using that very product (RainX orange all-season). Slimy deposits have been a known issue for some years now.

Glad to read that you got it sorted.
