I did drive one about a week ago, loved it. My concern is potential maintenance cost along with my driving habits. Take one or two long trips per year and mostly drive short distances. My work commute is about 20-25 mins. I drive a lot of backroads.
Depends on how long you keep it and how many miles you put on it during that time period. IMO, if you're not going to keep the truck past 7 years/100k, it's not an issue (warranty). I wouldn't keep it beyond that warranty period. Zero chance I will be keeping mine long term.

With my 392 coming, I might even drop the Gladiator altogether earlier than expected and move to a full size truck. We're buying a second place up in CO and I want something a bit more comfortable for long road trips (and more room for camping), but I do really like the width of the Gladiator for tighter trails. We'll have to see how it is in CO for the places we visit, and then decide if we can get something larger or not. Not sure if I'd get the ecodiesel in the ram or the 5.7 hemi. Knowing I can use 87 in the 5.7 kind of pushes me towards the hemi as the ecodiesel is a $3500 upcharge and I wouldn't make that back in fuel savings.

I don't know what increases the GVW, but the XR also comes with beefier axles in addition to the beefier brakes.
It comes with the Dana 44 front, that is the change in axle, the rear is the standard Rubicon axle which is also a Dana 44. The GVWR being higher on the XR has to be the wheels/tires, Dana 44 front, brakes, tire carrier, and whatever else XR adds to the weight over a standard Rubicon.

It’s not JUST a Dana44, it’s The Mohave/392 wide D44 with thicker axle tubes (there’s your 6100gvw), steel Knuckles, Performance 392 brakes and the 4.56 Gears. That alone is worth the XR package price. Then you have the bonus of tires and beadlock capable Wheels.

I already own one, I didn't recall all of the specifics. Someone asked why the GVWR was so much higher. The 4.56 gears aren't doing that, it is the other items that are adding the weight.

Yup, thanks and no problem on sharing - yes, he has the 3.6L etorque in this review. That is why the 8mpg was even harder to believe. If it was the 392XR and really hitting it hard, I'd not even question the 8mpg.
I assume it was a typo and meant 18 or it's one of the many drivers I see that drive only sensing what's going on like 5 feet in front of them. I see a red light ahead and I let off the gas, there are drivers that will ride my ass when I do this or pass me and accelerate to the red light only to be forced to brake hard. I don't get it. But I enjoy driving my JL and I'm in no rush to get anywhere. Just seems like everyone is in a rush. Also work in a hospital and see and hear about a lot of car accident surgeries. Very scary stuff.

The challenge: we’re outta town $&&?!*%#!?@&$!!!!!

Welp, at least it looks like 2022 will be getting off on the right foot!

Thanks to all on this thread (and site) for keeping it informative and entertaining and levelheaded.

Question on the XR springs. Do they change depending on the order, such as with or without tow package, steel bumpers, hardtop? Thanks!

One would think that like the JK Wrangler's, the springs are dependent on options. A 4Xe or Diesel, Dual top, tow package would warrant the heaviest springs.

Yea, I just wasn't sure with the XR package being newer, if anyone had confirmation on that.

I guess we have have to wait for a few more XR variations to be out there so we can start recording spring numbers.
A friend is picking up an XR next week so I’ll see if I can get the spring numbers and report. My loaded XR (dual top, 3.6 8spd, tow package) won’t be in until march.
