This guy came in from China today, $28.

I tried to be nice about it, but I was having trouble getting it unlatched from the gasser base... ?‍♂

I took a guess, I was under the impression that all of the fuel cap covers are the same size no matter what the base was, either 3.6/2.0/4xE/392 or 3.0. I guessed they were all the same in the end. Turns out I was right. :like:

This guy came off super easy, like almost too easy. I thought maybe I did something wrong it came off so easy...

This is pretty cool. I want a shiny blue gas cap now.

I'd also buy one of those and put this decal on it:

The glass on the back is removable...

IMG_20240113_123400.webp

You can see those two screws in the bottom left corner and top right corner of the photo.

Some point in the future I might replace the glass with something colored, and possibly upgrade the screws. They look kind of dinky.
Where did you get the gas cap though? Do they make aftermarket gas caps?

edit for clarity: not the door, the actual cap and it looks like they do but so far can only find one in red

The green fuel cap came with the eco diesel. However I had initially bought a green billet aluminum cap and a blue billet aluminum DEF cap, but the diesel cap didn't fit. So our turn that set and bought another one with just the DEF cap which is really pretty. And it's nice quality, and it fits snugly. I'm still looking for a green diesel cap to replace the original one with. I just haven't found one I like yet.

Here's the DEF cap, it's like 10 bucks. ;)

That cap is great. I don't think it would fit a regular gas tank though.

Hopefully you realize he put a 4xe sticker on his EcoDiesel.
Wait, what?! The trickery! I recant my statement of support.

I can no longer be affiliated with a poser

nah, j/k - I got a genuine chuckle when I saw the 4xe badges. I’m in the perfect boat for a 4xe, but I get it’s not for everyone.

Just a little FYI, pretty much all modern vehicles run coolant through the heater core at all times.
Vehicles now have what's called a "blend door", it channels the air over the AC evaporator and/or the heater core.
When the AC is running strong the blend door completely closes of the air passage to the heater core.
The heater core is also considered part of the cooling system in these modern rigs.

Are the turbochargers water cooled on the 3.0L diesels?
I thought all turbos were water cooled?

is that supposed to decrease the time it takes to blow hot air? Why have it always plumbed, especially in close contact to the cold air??‍♂

All the turbos I've dealt with have just been oil cooled, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Cummins big stuff, Cat big stuff.
Not sure I'd want water flowing through something that gets 1500 degrees or more.

Not really sure why the blend door. My guess is by running the coolant through the heater core all the time, that increases the coolant capacity by a little for extra engine cooling. Plus the computer for the climate control can better regulate the interior temp. Remember that a lot of cars have auto climate control now, with temperature set points.

The 1.5T engine in my wife's Honda uses an air-to-air intercooler. This heat exchanger serves to cool the compressed air, which can under full boost approach or even exceed 250°F.

By way of example, the intake for the Wrangler's 2.0T is a bit different. It's equipped with a built-in water/air charge intake air cooler. The intake air cooler, throttle body, and turbocharger use a separate cooling circuit, which explains why there is a separate, small coolant tank adjacent to the washer fluid reservoir on those Jeeps with that particular engine. The EGR system is also water-cooled.

Well…..the 2007.5 & newer 6.7L Cummins used in the 2500 & up trucks utilize a water cooled VGT turbo

In fact….the coolant also aids cooling of the turbo actuator, the device that controls the vane position inside the turbocharger.

My initial reason in asking if the 3.0L VM turbocharger was water cooled or not had to do with using the coolant shutoff valve that @Tredsdert was installing. If it’s not installed correctly and the turbocharger is indeed water cooled, problems will soon arise.

I thought air to water intercoolers were much more common than air to air, which was why my assumption was that most are water cooled. But I didn’t really know for sure.

What you’re describing is for reducing the intake charge air temperature.

If a turbocharger is water cooled, the actual coolant circulated by the cooling system is also dissipating the heat from the turbocharger itself.

I guess I never thought about it that much, I always thought it was helping cool the turbos as well. Clearly limited understanding of how they work.

And @Tredsdert

I’d consider removing that shutoff valve altogether and get another replacement line. It’s now just an additional failure point for a future leak.

First post,
I will be outlining the general mods I've already done and will slowly add more in-depth descriptions of those mods as time proceeds. I will be posting more in depth thoughts on future mods I will be doing, and the processes of getting them done as I complete them.

My Wrangler is a 2021 Willys Sport EcoDiesel. I have manual windows, manual locks, and at the moment no soft top (It's tied up in my garage ;)).

My end goal for my Wrangler is to have a rhino lined black interior, five-point harnesses on four bucket seats, a 4-in lift with at least for the moment maximum 35-in tires. I already have Icon Rebound Pro DOT approved beadlock rims. In the years to come I will redo my exterior paint in a Kevlar coating, I'm still a little undecided on the color I'll choose but will probably stick with a color similar to the Sarge green I already. have. Bushwacker fender flares.

The look I hope to have for my Wrangler will be more along the mainstream look of modded Wranglers. But the process I will take to get there is going to be a winding road of weird stuff coupled with functional mods.

At current this is how my Wrangler sits.

View attachment 695101

Icon Rebound pros sitting on OEM destination MT 32-in tires. Soft top removed. 5 gallon fuel tank holder on driver side fender. Vehicle name "TREDSDERT" vinyl on hood. Aluminum curtain rod painted and placed in spot of front fender flares.

View attachment 695102

"Si Se Puede" mirrored vinyl placed on front window, so that drivers in front can legibly read it in their rearview mirror. Steel rounds screwed into the aluminum hood to allow placement of interchangeable magnetic accessories. Orange "remember to close your hood strap" because I keep forgetting to latch my hood and have dented it in twice. Rough Country tubular front bumper installed. LED headlight upgrade. Trimming and very rough rigging of front fender liners.

View attachment 695103

Custom hood emblem, derived from old steel license plate frame, which I painted gold. Removal of the hood latch to fit a compressor, number one reason why my hood keeps flying up. Dixie Horn jury-rigged in front grill. (This one is so much fun, probably my favorite mod yet)

View attachment 695104

Front Passenger side door is going to become my sticker panel.

View attachment 695105

Tailgate removed. Third brake light relocated to top rear cross pillar on the roll cage. OEM front bumper trimmed and painted (red) and attached in place of the rear bumper. Holiday truck nuts. Halloween skeleton will act as a Jeep toy that I can dress up for holidays. Lots of projects to be had back here.

View attachment 695108

Rear seats and carpets removed. A bunch of bolts were painted gold at some point, though they don't pop as much as I was hoping. Light bar that came with the front bumper was placed back here for lack of a better location, at the moment it doesn't really serve any purpose other than to blind tailgaters (which I don't do because that's illegal ;)) Projects for this spring will involve a rear seat bracket and then two waterproof folding seats with lap belts.

As with all Jeeps, they leak a little, mine leaks a lot, waterproof container screwed to the floor to hold waterproof gear and a small amount of emergency items.

View attachment 695109

Custom made Polycarbonate semi-watertight roof panel, with 5% ceramic tint underneath. This project took me about 5 months of R&D, and about 15 holes drilled in the roll cage. Honestly my favorite mod I've installed, total cost was just under $250. It gives me that freedom feel I want and still a decent level of protection from the elements.

View attachment 695111

Here's a photo of what it looks like from the inside looking out.

Looking forward to this thread, hope y'all will enjoy it as much as I enjoy putting together these crazy projects.
Ballsy move taking everything off this time of year AND tearing out the flooring.

TRQ condenser came in, bit of a drive to Trenton, but well worth it. Looks really nice too. Couple of the fins are pushed in, but my dad has a rake tool to straighten them out.

Regardless not bad for 75 bucks.

When I picked it up, the guy actually told me that they sell them on Amazon too for about the same price.

I paid $75 solid for mine, not sure what this would come out to with tax and such. But interesting all the same.

Probably be installing it sometime in March or April maybe. Haven't quite decided that yet.
I'm kinda clueless on this one. Why?
