Someone in my neighborhood got their jeep stolen a few nights ago and the thiefs appeared to use range extenders for the key fobs.

Wouldn’t a feature similar to what Tesla has done of requesting a PIN to enable drive be something Jeep could implement to prevent this?

I’ve seen people recommending small faraday cages for the keys or to disable the keyless unlock altogether but that seems excessively inconvenient

Currently, this will help. I divided the total cost of the unit by the number of features I use, and my cost/feature is relatively low. Worth it to me AND the Pin Lock is awesome.

They don’t seem to work with the Wrangler though, and even less with the newer Uconnect 5 on the 2024 models ?

otherwise that’d be spot on

BTW it takes literally 5 seconds to unplug that tazer. Any thief is going to look for it and know about it. Completely useless feature.

That’s what I realized once I looked into it a bit more. I wish this was directly integrated into Uconnect 5 as a feature, anyone know how to send feature requests to jeep/stellantis?

I've a Sport (manual locks), so the vehicle is already hardened a bit.

As for blocking the fob's signal, these small pouches are unobtrusive and hardly inconvenient. I gift them to family members at Christmas. To a person, they're appreciative of the protection the pouches provide, as proven when I do a field demo with their vehicles and fobs.

Heck yeah. That's how I run in the summer too. Except for the Tonneau cover to cover my junk in the back. Lol.

Agreed, there is nothing inconvenient about using these pouches. In a couple of weeks of use it will be part of your routine. For the price there’s no excuse not to use them.

I use the Tazer. I agree that it's easy to unplug it and drive off, but I disagree that any thief will know to look for it. It's better than nothing and a determined thief will find a way to steal it no matter what you've done to protect it.

I've read the pouches "wear" down through repeated usage. I'm guessing the lining somehow gets cracked or bent enough and ends up allowing signal to leak through. But then I wonder what the heck those people are doing to the pouches that would make that happen lol

I'm going with a mix of faraday pouches and boxes (boxes for RF things that I don't use as much, spare key fobs etc.) I think the key (pun intended) is to test the effectiveness of the pouches from time to time to make sure they are still working and replace as needed.

This is all for naught when thieves are making their own keys by plugging into the canbus.
All the Jeeps need firmware updates like they gave the Hemi Challengers.

That's the fun part, doubly so if you can sneakily put a guest's key fob in a Faraday pouch, and then replace both back in their purse or jacket. Lots of head scratching and the occasional bad word may follow when they try to leave.

Not that I'd know anything about such trickery...
