I've discovered a strange bug in my system. (2019 JLU Rubicon with 8.4 uconnect).

When I turn my driver side heated seat on, my passenger seat comes on automatically. It doesn't always do it instantly - it could be a few minutes or happen right away. Now if I just turn the passenger side on, it does not make the drivers side come on. This only happens when the drivers side is activated. I don't seem to feel any loose connections underneath either seat. The situation happens both by pressing the physical button or selecting from the screen menu.

Where should I start to try and diagnose this? Is it likely something in the Uconnect head unit or a short happening in one of the seats?

I made a short video showing it happening:

Oh my gosh, yes I do have that installed. I’ll check that feature out tomorrow and see if that’s it. Thank you for that suggestion.

I would leave as is, and when your passenger asks why their seat is on, just tell you're warming up your snack. ;)

This works better if the passenger is your wife or girlfriend......not so much if it's your buddy or brother.

Any chance you have a JL Tazer installed? If so that's a default feature.

AutoPassHeat: Warm passenger seat in addition to driver when Auto-On Heat is enabled
I found it in the menus and turned it off. Thank you again, this kept me from going crazy. Why would Tazer turn this on by default?

You installed a device.... a device that does so much good but yet can cause so many issues if you don't follow exact guidelines ..... You are lucky this is all that bit you so to speak.

Had you read the instructions you would not have been blindsided by this Live Menu setting...

Anyway, not picking on you but............... geeeeez, learn to RTFM.

On edit: I see this is the 2nd time you were blindsided by the Tazer JL. DO take the time to read over the instructions for it. carefully. First time > https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/abs-and-parking-brake-lights.73719/post-1637616

Wow. I'd say this is definitely a bit of picking on me. I have over a decade in the software industry so let's dive in a bit more. (By the way, to think I didn't "RTFM" before installing an aftermarket module in my vehicle is ludicrous.)

It's genuinely impressive how many no-cost firmware and feature updates zautomotive provides. The problem is the way they have activated and communicated these updates on a product that modifies safety and other systems on a vehicle.

Both the heated seat and especially the brake-hold function should have been opt-in (default off) functions after being added in Firmware 11.27. Neither of these functions are expected default behavior for a user.

And guess what 11.2.9 states in its firmware instructions?
  • Initialized all live features to default OFF after upgrade
But even when you do look at the list of 32+ changes that occurred further back in 11.2.7, it does not clearly indicate that these features have been now activated by default - it implies these features are available, but not decidedly activated for you. In my case, my post-11.2.9 firmware upgrade did not default these as off, so something is wrong there as obviously both of these issues I had were from being automatically activated features.

More importantly, the user experience and expectation going back to at least 11.0.0 is that once you install and marry the Tazer JL Mini, changes to vehicle behavior are off by default until you the user make a change, such as adjusting tire-size (which, let's be honest is why 75% of people buy this.)

As for reading that manual, as of Oct 2nd, if you click the icon of the manual on the firmware page it takes you to a version for 11.0.8 which of course makes no mentions of these changes. However, clicking on the word 'manuals' below that graphic takes to a download of 11.2.7 manual. Think about that - users selecting the icon get an older manual vs users selecting the words below it!

Of course, the 11.2.7 manual should suffice for users, except of course it doesn't take into account the 11.2.9 change of supposedly turning all live features by default. So are the on or are they off? User beware! Furthermore, page 3 & 4 do of course list the feature options but make no indication to a reader that major changes have happened since previous versions - you'll have to go back to the list of firmware updates and hope you caught that it was a change earlier this year.

So much for RTFM / firmware change-logs / user expected behavior patterns. ?‍♂

Besides, who would evert expect their passenger heated seat to suddenly exhibit this behavior or for your brakes to go to the floor and activate your ABS light?

zautomotive has given us an incredible tool to modify many features - but the decision to haphazardly turn on some niche features and then have a convoluted way of communicating leaves some room for improvement in the communication department.
