After trading in my JK, I went off road in my new to me 2021 4-door JLUR while it was raining. Got a lot of orange sand all over it and had some fun in puddles. It's been 4 weeks and sand is still coming out of the junction between the painted OEM fenders and the inner fender liner. I'm sure there's a post on this but I can't find it.

Questions:
- How do I get the remaining trapped sand in there out?

- I don't want to remove them since they're painted and have the OEM LEDs, so what are my mod options to keep sand out?

- What have you done to prevent sand, etc from getting trapped in there?

Thanks!!

You cant just by the design of the fenders themselves. The painted part and the textured part are 2 pieces that are plastic welded together and all kinds of dirt/mud gets in there. One of the best side effects of the fender chop is the lower part of the assembly is gone and you can finally wash all the mud and crap out.

When you say welded, are you meaning riveted? I see some kind of rivets attaching the two pieces. Have you chopped yours?

It was one of the earliest mods I did yea May 2023 after I bought it Dec 22. On board air, switches, LCA & Shock skids then the chop. Shes way more modified these days than the early pic at the end.

Those rivets are what hold the liner to the fender not the 2 pieces together. This is the underside of the fender with the liner removed. The circled bits are where the 2 halves are plastic welded together.

You can see in this picture how smooth the inside is now after removing the inner half, and the temp solution I did with the stock liners until I bought aftermarket metal ones.

Air compressor and an air nozzle. Cleans out the inside of the Jeep great too.
Pressure washer in the crack between the 2 layers does a decent job as well but youre never gonna get it all.

Did you have to buy new turn signals or is keeping the factory ones an option? I'm not against the chop.

I went with the Quake kit in smoke but they offer a few of them just make sure its for the Rubicon. Theres also a few other companies out there that offer kits.

Ive also seen a guy around here that kept his factory turn signals but dont remember who it was. Probably can search google with site:jlwranglerforums.com added to your search to find it.

I think I found that post! Thanks so much!

I'm about to hit the road so I won't be able to respond for a few hours. Thanks everyone!

Not a problem, also be sure to have a bunch of the fender clips on hand because you will break almost all of them taking the fenders off.

Sorry if these suck 😂. My liners don't seem to have the same welds? Maybe I'm missing something?

The liners have to come out for you to see the inside of the fender I pictured up there. The liners are held on with some screws and all the rivets along the bottom of the fender you can see in your last picture. When you do the fender chop you will have to either cut up the stock fender like I did in the picture I posted or get aftermarket ones.
