Help! Just noticed the paint is bubbling on 2 separate doors near the hinges. Could this be a moisture/rust issue beneath? Never had an issue like this before and curious what this community thinks. This is a 2018 JLUR. Anyone else have this problem, and was it a pricey fix?

Appreciate your feedback and recommendations!

You just noticed that?!?

Seriously, you're not going to like the answers you're gonna get. Especially since you're most likely out of the 5 year warranty.

I've always wondered if this issue primarily affects Jeeps that aren't garaged?....

Yes both my wife’s and my JL are garaged and we have both had issues. I’ve often wondered if paint color makes a difference? But it sounds like all colors are effected at some level.

Common issue.

Corrosion is caused by the contact between two dissimilar metals. My 2018 has it too.

Dealer has acknowledged the issue and will be repairing under warranty. I’m in the queue, just waiting for their call.

Jeep is replacing all four doors on my 2019 JL Moab edition as the corrosion is also on lower edge of doors.

There is a 5 yr warranty in that. But a 2018 might be tough to get it done

To help everyone.. I have a ‘20 2dr Rubi that had paint bubbling on the hood edges as well as door hinges. The dealer repaired the paint issues only to come back several months later. The dealer replaced the hinges with a protective barrier this time ( between hinges and door). Again, months later the door edges are now bubbling as is the hood edges again!

The dealer informed me that this time, Jeep has decided to completely replace the doors ( scheduled 1st week of August ). I am waiting on a response re/ the recurring hood issue. The bodyshop did tell me last time I spoke with them that Jeep is now replacing the entire hood in many instances.

My best advice is if you see ANYTHING like this within the warranty period, get your jeep in immediately. What I am unclear of is that if the dealer in fact repairs your jeep with the known issues, does this start the corrosion warranty from scratch. Document everything, take many pictures and save all emails and/ or communication with your body shop.

I have read several threats on this over the last year and it is galvanic corrosion as most know. It is not just limited to Jeep. I have seen it on many Fords as well. I spoke with a body shop owner who told me that when car manufacturers had to start using aluminum body panels to make cars lighter (due to forced EPA standards on MPG), they still used steel bolts and rivets to attach them which causes or attributes to the issue. I've also heard that the prep and paint process can exacerbate the issue if not done to high standards.

My '19 has it on the hinges as well and I am out of warranty so sucks for me. When I do repair it, I am going to switch to an aluminum hinge. Not sure if that will help prolong the process but it is worth a try. And my JLU has been garage kept it's whole life - 60k miles.
