Just got a call from Ourisman - my Willys is in! Supposed to get a call from Jacob Black (GM) to work out the numbers. I'll let everyone here know what happens.

BTW, what's the recommended break in procedure for the 3.6L? I've got 425 miles of highway from MD to MA and it's not so easy to take back roads. Is it okay to just vary the speed from 55 to 70?

FWIW, I can tell you my decision for "break-in" on my way home. Whether it's right or wrong, I don't know. You'll have to decide what you feel is best for your Jeep. This is what I did. I had a 600 mile trek home, all highway. For the first like 100-150 miles I just took it real easy, didn't go super fast, didn't let the rpms go high, smooth shifting. That got me to my family I was visiting during this trip anyway so I did plenty of around town driving visiting people. Headed home, about 200 miles on the odo hit the highway for my last 500 miles leg home. I did some shift bumps like you'd do to pass someone on the highway. The manual says brief full-throttle acceleration contributes to a good break-in so that was what I did here and there along the way. Beyond that, I just drove normal...nothing crazy. I wouldn't over think it. I spoke to couple mechanics in family and friends circle. They basically told me to get in a drive don't worry about it lol. I just figure take it easy the first 300 miles like it says in the manual and call it good. It was probably overkill but made me feel better.

EDIT: Oh, and I changed the oil at 1000 miles because it felt right to do the first one early.

Our Jeeps must have been on the same carrier, we received the call as well that our 2 dr Anvil Willys arrived. I did tell them that MA residents aren't allowed to drive a car with out of state temp tags, so I'm curious to see where things go from here and have asked that they investigate what it will take to have real plates on the Jeep before we schedule pickup. I'm also going to look into if I can register it and get the plates from here with the help of our insurance agent and just bring the plates with me.

Does anyone know how they are with Virginia tags? Mine still has an ETA of 2/29, but no calls yet.

Finally got my SC tags in yesterday. They extended my temporary until they came in. It all worked out.

Their Sales Mgr said she had 2 pages of people to call so they must have gotten a massive delivery. I didn't realize we couldn't drive back to MA with MD temp tags? Please let me know what you find out.

When are you planning to fly and drive?

I’m waiting for the dealer to respond to my MA registration questions before I make any plans, but will basically be ready to book a one way flight with a few days notice to get down there. The dealer did ask if I was prepared to have the deal finalized and Jeep picked up in one week, and I’m all for that but am thinking it will take longer for real plates, so not getting my hopes up yet.

I would think you could drive home with temp tags. At least you can get your Jeep home. But I'm not familiar with this MA law where it does not recognize out of state temporary tags for residents. Perhaps Ourisman will let you drive home with a dealer plate and then overnight the correct tags to you?

Alternatively, if you're really worried about getting pulled over, you could have the Jeep transported to your home either by yourself or a transport company. I considered going the transport route to keep miles off my Jeep and I know of others on here that had great success so I looked into it. As suggested elsewhere on here, I went through a1autotransport.com for quotes. Most quotes I got ranged from $300-$500 to transport my Jeep from Ourisman to SC which is not bad. But be prepared for some spam as a lot of companies will reach out to you via email so you'll want to unsub when you get the info you wanted. Just some options for ya hope it helps.

Do you know with the MD temp tags, how is your vehicle registered? Were you able to register your Jeep in SC before driving it back from MD? In MA, to register a vehicle, you need the Title, Bill of Sale, and proof of insurance. Then you need to physically walk into the RMV, present these docs, pay your taxes, registration, and plate fee before you are registered and handed plates.

I'm going to get a few shipping quotes - it may be a better option.

SC is similar with the registration and taxes. Normally to get plates here, you have to provide proof of sale and then pay property tax on the vehicle, then go to the DMV and show them you paid your taxes and they give you your plate and registration after you bought your car and paid those taxes. Ourisman offered to do all that paperwork for me when I signed and picked up the Jeep. What they didn't realize at the time was I had to pay the property taxes before they could submit anything to DMV on my behalf. They know now! I worked with Carlita Young in the title office at Ourisman to get everything done post Jeep pickup.

I didn't do anything with SC registration and taxes until I got the Jeep home. I drove with the MD temporary registration and tags for 2 months, as the process with SC took a while (mostly because Ourisman waited a month to start processing things with SC lol. What I needed to do on my end was take the bill of sale to the county tax office and pay my property taxes. I did this beginning of February. Next, I sent my tax receipt to Ourisman who then processed my SC tags/registration for me. Just this Monday, my SC tags and registration came in the mail via FedEx from Ourisman.

Thanks for the contact. Shipping quote is $650 open carrier, $950 enclosed. MA doesn't recognize the MD temp tag as legal vehicle registration so guess that could be an issue if an accident occurred on the way home. I'm starting to lean towards shipping.

I've got an email conversation going with my insurance agent here in MA. They are offering to help with the registration and plate side of things, Ourisman would need to fill out their portion of the MA Registration and Title Application and get it to my agent with the title and bill of sale, and then the agent will have a runner go to the RMV, and then send me the plates. I hope to get the details ironed out and hopefully it works for everyone. Or I'll ship it.
