I've got an email conversation going with my insurance agent here in MA. They are offering to help with the registration and plate side of things, Ourisman would need to fill out their portion of the MA Registration and Title Application and get it to my agent with the title and bill of sale, and then the agent will have a runner go to the RMV, and then send me the plates. I hope to get the details ironed out and hopefully it works for everyone. Or I'll ship it.
The title clerk there know how to do a MA deal and they use a MA based runner To get actual plates. Takes a few weeks but your agent stamps the rmv form and they take care of it.
Have done a bunch of deals with them and it’s been worth it. Just signed on a new one today.
Bummer that Mitch left but the dealer has been going through some issues. He’s selling Mercedes now.

I also have shipped every deal. $300 from MD to MA is well worth it.

I'm finalizing my transaction with them now. After an initial misunderstanding on the deal Mitch agreed to, they have now agreed to honor the 7% below invoice w/ affiliate. I have been working with Tina and Tim and they have been great.

The only non-doc fee they added was $353 for registration and plates. Registration is $60 so guess this is a bit of extra profit in their pockets which I'm fine with to not have to deal with MA RMV. The main issue is they said plates take 5 weeks and I'm flying to pick up in 2 weeks. They said they will give me a temp tag to drive home, but I thought MA doesn't accept temp tags?

If I didn't already buy 2 one-way tickets for me and my son, I would hit you up on who you use to get $300 shipping. Cheapest quote I got was $450.

Correct. No temp tags in MA technically so you have to wait for plates. BUT if you’ve added the car to your policy some will argue that you’re okay.
On my deals I’ve waited on plates but if you already have the plane ticket you should be fine as long as the car is on your insurance.

Oof, that means I can't drive the vehicle for 5 weeks until plates are shipped to MD only to be shipped back to MA. In that case, shouldn't I just get the plates myself? Forgo their $353 fee and walk into the RMV with proper paperwork and walk out with plates? Then we could fly down in 2 weeks with plates in hand and drive back.

Ourisman claims as a new dealership they are required to get the tags, but that sounds like BS to me?

@sjl136 What are you doing - is Ourisman getting your plates or are you doing it on your own?

We haven't gotten that far yet, but should know more tomorrow. I'm going to try and involve our insurance agent tomorrow now that the process is in motion.

Please let me know if they're telling you the same thing - that they have to get the tags and it takes 5 weeks. They will send you driving home with a temp tag.

They are one of the few out of state dealers that does MA deals and it’s worth the discount but the rules are the rules. The only dealer I’ve known that figured out how to do that with MA deals out of state and have you handle registration (even on leases) is Gupton and I can guarantee you Ourisman or other dealers won’t change their process. I’m just happy they do deals for our state and have a pretty decent process and local partner to get it done.

They should have told you the process but Mitch leaving didn’t help. But I know Mitch has done a ton of MA deals in the past for me and others.

Having the new Jeep sit in my garage for a few weeks waiting on plates will be a major annoyance especially since our insurance agent says they can easily help get the plates in a week working with the dealer. I won't drive with the MD tags other than to get it home and park it until the plates arrive. I tried that one time with a company car with Ohio temp tags, got pulled over for no reason other than the tags, and you would swear I had committed a crime the officer was so pissed at me for even daring to drive with out of state temp tags. No way I'm letting my kids or wife get stopped with those MD tags on it.

Yeah I'm sure this all would have been much easier if Mitch was still there. Good to know this is the process. As long as they can register the vehicle in MA and it's insured, I don't think the temp tags will be an issue.

Had I known this was the process I would have had it shipped and just wait for the plates to show up.

the discount is off set by the extra time to wait and hoops to jump through but is worth it.

the backlog of deals to process at the dealer is part of the issue not just the state

For future reference, can you share who you use to get $300 shipping from MD to MA?

Took them 3 months to get me my plates. Hope you have better luck than I did.
