Hi all:

I had a 2012 Arctic Edition and added a 2.5" Fox lift with Nitto Trail Grapplers. Wasn't quiet, but wasn't super loud either. Lot's of comments about the stock tires on the MOAB being loud...or louder than the tires on the Rubi. Anyone running these mud tires? I'll be driving 90% on the road, 10% on the sand when going to the beaches here on Long Island. Any feedback would be great!

Loud is a bit subjective. I started with KM3 which are supposedly an improvement in ride and sound over the KM2 that ship with the MOAB but I'm sure they are very similar. IMO, they are not loud but definitely have that mud tire sound at cruising speed. I've since switched to KO2, same model as the Rubi but a bigger size. They are incredibly quiet and smooth. I don't even hear them. The noise of the KM3 didn't bother me at all but was noticeable. The KO series is definitely quieter and may be better on sand. KM shines in rocks and mud.

I don't think you can go wrong with either. You can always try the stock tires and sell them without much loss if you don't like them.

Yes MTs are going to be a bit louder than ATs. The only JL I've driven with MTs was a Rubicon with the Falken Wildpeak MTs and they weren't bad on road.

I'd say you should find one and test drive it to see if its for you, But if you had a Jeep with Nittos I'd say you would find pretty much any factory tire to be quiet.

I was thinking the same when I bought mine. Lots of talk about how loud they are, so I figured I'd just leave them on and if it got to the point where I didn't like them I'd buy some different ones. They now have 5600 miles on them and they still don't really annoy me. They're definitely noticeable but I usually have the radio loud enough that it doesn't matter.

I own a MOAB and the tires do get loud. You will definitely hear them going 50+ mph.

However, you will hear a lot of road/wind noise as well so... even if you were going to change out the tires to something quite, it will still be loud at highway speeds. Up to you if spending another $1000 on tires to reduce tire noise is worth it. Again you won't hear the MOAB tires until you hit 50+ mph.

They are pretty loud at 50+ mph. I don't really notice the sound below that although I'm sure someone not used to the sound would.

So far it hasn't bothered me and I currently intend to stick with them until they need replacing.

Coming from someone who had never previously owned a Jeep or anything with mud tires, they were initially pretty loud. It's only been a couple of weeks since I bought the Moab, but I'm much more used to the sound already. Of course, most of my driving during the week isn't done out on the highway, and I agree with others who say the sound is much more noticeable at 50+ mph. At first I thought I'd need to replace them, but I don't really feel that way anymore. When these wear out I'll switch to something different, but they are fine until then.

Yea, the Falken Wildpeak M/Ts actually has a slightly more closer/mild thread pattern than traditional MTs, leaning towards an aggressive AT, which is why it does well on road noise, another one I can think of is the Milestar Patagonia MTs, love that thread design.

Test drove a Rubicon with the KO2's and another with the KM's. Same pressure on both. Poor road manners on the KM. Loud and road hard. What I expected from an MT tire so not bad but a very noticeable difference.

I had the KM2 and just switched to KO2s yesterday. I feel a big difference and thing it was definitely worth the upgrade. I also upgraded my rims. It would be great if Jeep gives folks an option to choose when they order a MOAB.
