my 3.6 has almost 100k miles. no ticking. i’m wondering if anyone believes in lucas oil stabilizer or liquid moly type products to prevent ticking. i’m aware some say to switch oil weight which i haven’t done. it seems like lucas is sticky and thus may help but i don’t know. i change the oil and filter every 5k and use restore and protect (by shell i think?).
interested in your opinions on the topic. i’m guessing it’s of no help otherwise i would have heard more about it?
thx!

I will get murdered for saying this on here, but, I would change oil weight and add a can of Liqui Moly CeraTec every 3rd or 4th oil change. You could also pick an API SP/SQ certified oil in the correct weight that is formulated on the thicker side than PUP, like Mobil1 ESP.

keep in mind to flush your oil and put fresh in before you bring it to the dealer for repairs to avoid giving an easy reason for warrranty denial. However, I strongly believe this combination makes for a mechanically better running and longer lasting engine. The only argument against it are the “Oil additives are not allowed as per manual” crowd.

The quality of the engine oils as of today, do not need any additives added! We run PUP 5w30 in all four of our 3.6 engines. No issue with any of them.

If Lucas treatment was the magic pill for saving cams and rockers it would be discussed more.
I used it in my YJ that had 250,000 miles to get one more summer out of it before an engine rebuild. It brought my my oil pressure up 4psi. It’s sticky like snot but isn’t much more than a base oil.
A good oil like PUP or Mobil1 ESP, etc is all you need.
Oil opinions are everywhere and they all are good, or they all have failures.

If that make you sleep at night go for it, not much member running this setup therefore not much data. Personally I was not impressed with the lucas stuff I still have the bottle on my shelf. So if I was to do that I would go liquid molly route. My 0.02$

Agreed…..this is the oil with 5K miles on it in my 2018 Ram 3.6 auto work truck with 174K miles ( I know it always looks lighter on the dipstick) It’s had Penn 5w20 and usually a Mopar or Fram EG filter in it every 5K since the day I brought it home…… You guys run additives if you want to, it’s a hard pass for me……

With 100k miles, switch to 5w-30...use an oil with "dexos" on the label, Valvoline Advanced, Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Castrol Edge...do not use any additives.

I use the LiquiMoly in my 2019 Jeep JLUR. Just that extra bit of antifriction lubricant. I don't lose sleep for the extra $ and the peace of mind it gives me (whether needed or not).

I've seen it mentioned that most of the additives, like LiquiMoly, end up settling in the bottom of the drain pan. I used it in my YJ and didn't notice that happening.

I bought a can of Ceratec 5 years ago for my BMW N55 motor. It still sits on the shelf untouched: I am too fearful to pour it in. The car is now nearing 200k miles.
