Define "necessary"; is it what the mfr recommends (a catch all average)? It's very cheap "insurance" with DI engines where I've been burned by Audis and others. That, and she drives her vehicles hard.

I'm well aware, thanks. Every vehicle and its usage is different and I've seen UOAs vary depending on extreme use or not. My wife towed 3000-3400lbs all the time and like I said, drove it very hard to the point I'd say abusive. The difference between 34 oil changes and 20 oil changes is ~$500; it's not a big enough deal to quibble about and that oil gets recycled so....why not?
